Introduction

Hi, I'm Bill, and I love capturing life’s candid moments. I have a lot more availability and flexibility directly through my site. I am inspired by people and their stories, beautiful spaces, nature and simplicity. I strive to create stunning, real photos that truly capture the emotion of the moment. I want to tell your story and capture breathtaking imagery that will be cherished for years to come. I strive to give my clients the greatest quality and value. For every hour of a session, you will receive 100-plus fully edited images. I like to capture everything. I shoot with the Nikon Z9 and D850. Nothing pleases me more than an ecstatic customer who can't believe I captured the shot. My customers will tell you that when I'm on the job, I'm everywhere. I do my best to capture every moment, whether I'm doing a family event on Lake Michigan, a corporate shoot at the Union League Club, or an engagement session in Lincoln Park. I always have two to three cameras on me on every shoot so I can quickly go from an intimate shot to a wider portrait.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Please contact me directly through my website or via text, not through this app. Thumbtack's calendar does not reflect my availability. I love capturing candid moments -- surprise engagements, corporate events, weddings, parties... I deliver all my high-resolution digital images through Pixieset. Pixieset is an amazing platform that allows my clients to easily download and share all of their images immediately. I always provide my customers with a quick preview album within a few hours of the event as I know my clients enjoy that. I then provide the fully edited high-resolution images within a week to ten days of the event, depending on the event's length.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I love meeting new people and working with new customers. I want my customers to know that I'm willing to explore with them any location, pose or idea. Some of my best sessions have come from the spontaneous ideas that clients and I have developed together. I had a couple who came to Chicago with limited time on military leave. Even though it rained their entire session, we chose locations that complimented the dramatic mood that the rain provided. Another morning, while I was doing engagement photography, the fog crept in and we capitalized on it, and got some amazing shots.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Where photography is concerned, I've always had to have the latest and the best. From junior high on, I've been obsessed with finding the best way to capture the moments around me. I've been taking photos for so long, that it's second nature to me. I'm extremely responsive to the changing demands of a dynamic photo shoot. I can be responsive because I have the right gear for any circumstance. I always have my Nikon D850 and my Nikon D750 on me while shooting any event or portrait session. I also have a variety of lenses on me so that I'm never surprised by changing lighting or other unknown factors. Even if it's bright and sunny, I always bring several flashes and have them ready. They're important to balance the different lighting conditions that are always present.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I enjoy working with people and I love giving them my best work. I've worked with every type of person and corporate client that you can imagine. I've done family and corporate events at many of the hotels in Chicago including the Union League Club, the Blackstone Hotel, the Hyatt, the Library at 190 S. LaSalle, the Radisson Blue Aqua, and many of the Chicago cruise ships. I've done sessions all over the Chicagoland area. I'm happy to provide my clients with suggestions, but I also love it when they suggest a new area or location. One family, in particular, had elderly relatives that couldn't travel far. They asked me to find a good location near their home. I did some research and suggested the West Ridge Nature Preserve. We got some great photos!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently completed a photo shoot in which I remained hidden along the Chicago River Walk while a nervous groom-to-be proposed to his elated girl friend. The resulting images that we captured were amazing. I captured the moment and then we went to a few different locations to get some posed shots for their wedding invitations and announcement. They were so happy! It took between an hour and an hour and a half.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I always advise any client to be straight forward in detailing the type of images they are hoping to capture during a session or an event. My greatest client photos have always been the result of clear communication between myself and the people I am photographing. Lighting is one of the most important things I have to consider during a session. If I know what the customer wants, I can make it happen!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Some clients prefer strictly posed and relatively staged, formal photographs. Others prefer the opposite and would much rather have images that come from spontaneous reactions and locations. My typical clients usually ask for an even combination of both styles. I've found that its best when my customers tell me what they want. I've had clients email me with Pinterest examples to re-create images they've seen online. It was really helpful for me to have their suggestions.
