Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Every project is different. If very simple, a standard hourly rate can be charged. Typically, the client/customer has a budget cap or range that's ideal and since the scope of work is usually more malleable, we discover ways to think outside of the box to deliver for the client's vision, production demands, and ideal budget.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I start by listening. It's important to know what the customer wants and how it's to be used so that I can help create an effective and engaging video that works. Once the client and I can match up the scope of work, budget, and delivery... we go to work!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Bachelor of Arts Theatre Indiana University 1992 Master of Fine Arts (pending) Theatre Indiana University 1994 Accomplished television and video producer with strong skills and experience in most aspects of production including: Directing, Producing, Writing, Editing, Camera Op, Animation, Budgeting, and extensive Marketing, Branding, and Design skills including Art Direction and graphics. Experience and expertise in most software and applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and related programs. Experience in micro and large budget productions; heading departments with over 50 personnel; directly responsible for department budgets of over $1 million; pitching and presentations to high level network and corporate officers; working under strict technical, legal, and delivery guidelines.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I love story-telling and problem-solving, and this job demands both at its highest level. I get to develop the story during the development or scripting process, during the actual videography, and once again during the final edit. All 3 areas are equally technical and creative, and that challenge allows me to use my expertise to challenge the status quo and deliver something amazing while also highly effective.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I'm an Emmy Award winning producer, videographer, editor, and writer, with over 15 years history of extensive experience in film & television including reality programming, hosted stage episodics, mow’s, and over a decade of producing hundreds of high level and highly conceptual marketing, commercial, educational, and various internal and external videos for a variety of global corporations with strict branding guidelines and deliverables. Resume includes The ESPY Awards, X-Games, Food Network, ABC Sports, NFL’s Monday Night Football, IFC, Sundance Channel, ESPN, History Channel, Sony, HBO, Documentary Channel, Comedy Central, INSP, PAX, E!, Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, just to name just a few.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Hourly rates can be deceiving. A real pro can delivery more in just a few hours than a novice can in weeks. Also, look at the providers work samples that may be similar to scope or creativity as your needs. Then get multiple references and call to see what the process was like, and if that final product has been successful for them. Look for VALUE instead of cheap. Value equals the BENEFIT of the final product minus the COST of creating it. If the cost (be it money, frustration, or effectiveness) is less than the benefit. The production is not of good value.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How is the video to be used... who is your audience? What messaging do you want to achieve in your video? Do you have ideas on how to achieve that? How is the success of the video measured? What is your ideal budget range or budget cap?-- (It's usually easier to change the approach and scope than it is to change the budget.) What is your timeline/ schedule?
