Introduction

Quality photography is art that you and your family will cherish for decades. Your image is important and you deserve the best. Let's see if we can work well together to produce an outstanding portrait that expresses who you are, not just what you look like. There is no charge for our initial consultation.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Every assignment is different and as such it is difficult to establish a firm fixed price without a clear understanding of the scope and expectations of the client. For most assignments, I prefer to quote a fixed price. That way, on shoot day, no one is looking at the clock and can focus on producing the best images possible. I do offer discounts to repeat customers and for referrals, but that is done on a selective basis.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Communication is key, and establishing a rapport must begin in the planning stages of a shoot. I spend as much time as necessary going over the intangible details (mood, message, and personal meaning) as the practical details (location, wardrobe, time of day, etc.). During this discussion I can learn where my client is coming from and where she/he wants to go with the imagery so I can make images that fit their objectives. It also lays out the requirements, i.e., what they should bring with them and other things they should do to prepare.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have been shooting semi-professionally for more than 40 years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started by shooting a friend's wedding while in college and continued shooting for fun and working in a scientific darkroom. My experience in the scientific darkroom was invaluable in developing my sense of image processing.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with business professionals, business owners, musicians, attorneys, government employees, consultants, brides-to-be, equestrians, artists - lots of different folks.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I did a personal project recently by taking a solo trip to my home town after being away for quite some time. I had no responsibilities whatsoever and was able to shoot whenever and whatever I wanted for more than a week. I was pleased with the images I came away with.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for someone who is as passionate about creating great images for you and whose enjoyment is making YOU happy. A person for whom money is secondary to the art but who understands the financial value of excellence.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Decide what is most important to YOU. If it is price, please look elsewhere. If you do have a list of things that are important, talk them over with your photographer - don't hesitate. The more the photographer knows about what you want and expect, the greater the chance that you will get what you want.
