Introduction

As a photographer, most of my experience is in a photo-journalistic style, however, I have had a bit of studio experience as well. I am always trying to come up with new ideas to provide unique experiences and photos for my clients. I have about seven years worth of experience photographing people and their families. I like to approach everything I do differently than the last time. It is my goal to provide each client with a unique and personal experience. I like my work because nothing is the same from client to client. Each photoshoot provides new opportunities than the last one. I love being able to grow and expand my craft on a regular basis.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For most services, I have a set fee. That being said, I do try to approach each photography session with my clients needs in mind. If they are looking for a shorter photoshoot, I will adjust pricing accordingly.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I work with new clients, I like to get an idea of what their needs and goals are for our photo session. I take into account their desires for photo delivery (digital download, flash drive, etc.).

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a background in journalism. I graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a B.S. in Mass Communications. Originally, I wanted to be a reporter for a newspaper. I've always loved taking photos but I really dove into it during my college years. I took several photo classes in college to learn what I could. Additionally, I worked in a photo studio for a time that focused a lot on family and children portrait work.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always been into taking photos. I never thought I would be one that dove into the world of family or wedding photography. Here we are 10+ years later. It just goes to show you can never say never.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with many different client types. My clients have ranged from high school seniors, brides, families, sports companies, restaurants and retail businesses. This spans direct hire work and freelance work through other companies connecting freelancers and businesses.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Most of my sessions tend to be about an hour long unless we move into senior photos or weddings. Most of my recent jobs have been work with a sports company. However, if we look in the last year, I have done many family photography sessions that stick out in my mind. The families were easy to work with and we were able to accomplish everything they wanted to photograph.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would advise people looking for a photographer to do your research. Ask to see images from recent sessions. Look at more than one photographer just to see what your likes and dislikes are as far as photography style. I would also advise customers to take a photographers pricing into consideration. What do I mean by that? I mean that a photographer has spent time learning and honing their skills. They take into account the value of their time both behind the camera and in the editing process. Just consider the fact that you might have to spend a little more money than you had anticipated but know that it is completely worth it for the right photographer.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I would advise customers to think about what exactly it is that they want. Their potential photographer will ask them questions to try and develop a plan or provide a quote. It is much easier for any photographer to do that if the client knows exactly what they are looking for.
