Introduction

Experience is certainly high on the list, but our focus and concentration is always on communication and getting to know our clients and their needs. Whether photographing people or products, the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. A huge bonus is that this fosters even greater creativity. It's definitely all about the people side of things. Meeting interesting people and continually growing business relationships; learning while expanding my skills, are leading motivations for me.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We tailor our pricing to the budgets of our clients and bid when opportunities are a good fit. Sometimes that may mean I bid less than my normal fees, but it's always worth it. Mine is a custom business so it's important to be flexible. Discounts are offered when larger volumes of work are involved.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Communication is the key to great results in photography. We make it a point to learn as much as we can about the client's wishes and goals for their photography session. We're happy to offer suggestions along the way and then apply decades of knowledge and experience to create images that make a positive and lasting impact.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
A lifetime of education and training which began, simply with classes at Mitchell Community College in Basic, Intermediate, and Darkroom photography. I was fortunate to further develop my skills through an apprenticeship opportunity in Commercial Photography and to make the transition to digital imaging while working in the photography studio of a large regional retail corporation. Now, even as I've become an instructor myself, I am continually studying and improving my craft to better serve both my clients and students.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My earliest interest in photography dates back to childhood, but I really became serious and dedicated to it as my wife and I anticipated the birth of our daughter. At that point, I purchased a 35mm SLR camera and began the journey of education and training that soon turned into a career.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've always considered myself fortunate to work with many different types of clients from furniture, equipment and consumer goods manufacturers; to law firms, real estate brokerages and governmental organizations; to artists and entrepreneurs. That diversity of challenges is what keeps me excited about the present and the future.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
There are so many, let me share two. First was a Headshot session I did for the son of a client, a new college graduate. That referral alone was special, but then I learned that within a few months of using that photo on his LinkedIn profile, he landed a new job in his chosen field. The second was just this week, when I met an artist who needed photographs of her sculptures. Her work was stunning, she was a joy to work with and she was thrilled with the photos. It seems like my favorites are almost always recent projects, especially ones that involve meeting and working with great people.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Provide as much detail as you can about your project and reach out to the provider with any questions you have. Great communication is the key to successful results.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
1. What information do I need to provide for the professional to fully understand the scope of my project? The more detailed, the better. 2. What additional information do I need to know from the professional about their ideas and recommendations for successfully completing my project?
