Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My pricing is designed to reflect the time, planning, and creative effort that goes into each session. I offer transparent flat-rate packages for portrait sessions, which include planning consultations, a shoot on location with mobile lighting setup (as required), and a curated set of edited images. I also offer discounts for repeat clients or referrals—ask me about those when we connect!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I start by learning what you're hoping to achieve in the session—whether it’s a personal portrait, a stylized look, or something creative like cosplay. Once I understand your vision, I’ll share a Pinterest board with suggestions for poses, mood, or wardrobe to help you prepare. The day before, I’ll send over tailored clothing and color recommendations to make sure you feel confident and the look fits the tone. On the day of the shoot, we’ll keep things relaxed while working efficiently to get a strong set of unique images that reflect your personality and goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My training has been self-directed, driven by a love of storytelling and people. I’ve been especially influenced by Jerry Ghionis for his approach to posing and by Sean Tucker’s stylized lighting techniques. Over time, I’ve refined my craft through hours of experimentation, study, and working with clients in a variety of settings.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It all started in 2013 when I borrowed a Canon Mark III and took it out for a day of urban shooting. That day, I stumbled upon a jazz band and an intimate wedding ceremony—I caught the “I do” and the first kiss. Capturing those unscripted, meaningful moments was addictive. Since then, I’ve been hooked on using photography to preserve real, powerful memories for the people I work with.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I’ve worked with families, singles, couples, dogs (yes, dogs!), cosplay enthusiasts, expectant mothers, and clients looking for stylized or conceptual portraits. I adapt my approach to each person, making sure the session feels fun, efficient, and true to their vision.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my favorite recent sessions was a spontaneous 15-minute shoot with my own family while my mother was visiting. We kept it short and simple, but I was able to capture four distinct poses and ended up with around 10 unique and meaningful images. It reminded me that sometimes the most powerful photos come from quick, well-planned moments filled with real connection.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Start by reviewing the photographer’s portfolio—do their photos evoke a feeling you want in your own images? If their style aligns with your vision, that’s a great sign. If you’re unsure, ask to see a few more examples from past clients. Often, a good photographer has worked across different tones and looks, and you might find something closer to what you're imagining.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Think about what you want the images to say—Is this a personal milestone? A professional headshot? A stylized portrait for social or a gift? Also consider where the photos will live: online, in print, or framed on your wall. And bring ideas! Even if they’re rough, sharing a mood board, a color palette, or a story behind the shoot helps make it more collaborative and meaningful.
