Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For most services I provide a base price. You can add other services for additional fees. For example, if you would like extra retouching or an extra thirty minutes beyond what is provided in the service package, you will need to pay extra fees.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
With a new customer, I want to confirm all pertinent details and answer any questions right from the jump. The date, location, and number of people are always the three big things I need to know. Once I have all the info I need and the shoot is booked, I will make sure to check in with you the week leading up to the shoot, just to make sure everything is in order. The day of the shoot, I will arrive 10 minutes early. After your shoot, I will confirm how long the editing process will take. Depending on the size of the shoot and the amount of editing required, this processes can take up to three months. For family portraits, engagements, and weddings I will provide a small selection of previews the day after the photo shoot. Your images will be provided to you via digital download. After you have reviewed the images, you can decide if you would like any further editing or retouching.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in 2011 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Digital Photography. At the time, it was the premier school for photography in the US. I learned from the best photographers in their fields and perfected my photographic style. In the years since college, I have continued to learn and grow. I have been a professional photographer for almost 15 years and I have learned the most from working with amazing clients.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got my start in photography in high school. I was fortunate enough to attend a school with an amazing dark room and I fell in love with the process. I would spend every free moment at school either in the dark room or taking photos. I ended up pursuing photography through college and I started my buisness while attending college. I don’t use a dark room anymore, but my passion for the art continues to grow.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My customer base is pretty varied. I have worked with families, small businesses, international corporations, and everyone in between! My experience makes me feel confident to tackle almost any project thrown my way.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, I photographed a portrait session with a grandmother, mother, and child. I love the photos because the love shared among the family is so vividly apparent through the photos. Since the shoot was at a park, the child was able to be comfortable and have fun without the normal stress of a traditional family portrait session. The photo shoot was thirty minutes and the photos were delivered six weeks from the shoot date.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The main advice I would give to a customer looking for a photographer would be to shop around. Look through portfolios and make sure the work matches your vision. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure the photographer is providing everything you need for a successful end product.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before you talk to a professional about your project, make sure you know your basics! Big things to consider are: budget, shoot date, how many hours of service you believe the project will take, how many people or objects you need photographed, and the date of delivery deadline (or a timeline of when assets need to be delivered, mostly for larger projects).
