Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Installation prices vary, but very reasonable. Product can also drive up the price (ex. a $300 stock Home Depot door vs. a $2500 custom wood door) so I work with the customer to get the best product at the best price. I typically offer a multi-door discount as well.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I determine how extensive the project will be, as well as find out how much help the customer will need with product selection.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I completed an OSHA 10 course and am lead certified. I’ve worked around construction my whole life, specifically doors since I was 15.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started out cleaning up the job site and installing the lock sets with my dad as a teenager. Then helping with the actual installation and apprenticing for a contractor in New York. I finally started my own installation business in 2015.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All kinds! From the first time home owner to the well seasoned property developer, all with various skill sets and knowledge of construction.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Ask plenty of questions! I have so many people start with “this may sound dumb…” but this is never the case. A seasoned pro can readily answer any questions that come up, so keep that communication open. Also see if the individual does this as a specialty, or just part of a long list of things they’ve done before.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the end goal for the project? Is it being done out of necessity (door glass broken) or to provide curb appeal? Are you set on one specific look or brand, or could a cost difference allow some flexibility?
