Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Mary and I’m a professional free lance makeup artist. I’ve been obsessed with makeup since I was a young girl. It has always been my passion. I’ve been actively doing professional makeup for almost 10 years. My clients range from all ethnic backgrounds which gives me a lot of experience working with different people. I do makeup for all types of occasions such as weddings, birthdays, photo shoots and even for just a night out. The looks I create can range from natural to dramatic. I ask many questions to my clients to capture the look that they want me to create. My focus is always on making my clients happy and to make them feel good on their special day.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I do offer discounts when I’m working with a large group. My lashes and travel fees are included in my pricing. I do add additional travel fees when the location isn’t local and that all depends where the location is.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
With a new client I ask a lot of questions. I want to understand what the client is looking for. The questions help me narrow down what type of look to create and the clients style. I never leave a client unhappy, I make sure I deliver exactly what they want.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a self taught makeup artist but also certified through Maquillage Academy of Makeup and Aesthetics. I am always improving and working on my skills to grow as a makeup artist.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I’ve loved makeup ever since I was a teenager. It was my dream to become a makeup artist but I didn’t have the belief. I didn’t give up though. I would do makeup on friends and cousins and slowly started getting referrals. I developed my skills and build amazing clientele. I’ve been a makeup artist ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with all types of customers. Customers from all ethnic groups.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently worked on a photoshoot for a client who is a business owner that needed pictures of herself for her website. I created several looks for her so she can have options to put up on her website. It was a fun project.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice would be to look at the artist’s work and ask questions. Also, doing trials is very helpful to for the client and the artist. The artist gets a better understanding of what the client wants and the clients expresses what the artist should deliver.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What kind of look they want to achieve, how dramatic they want the makeup to be, if there is a theme they want to create, if they like glam or more natural looks. I guide my clients through the questions and ask many questions in my end.
