Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
American Movers Orlando offers our customers both hourly rates and flat rate prices. We DO NOT charge extra for things like stairs, long walks (from residence to truck or vice versa), or for disassembling and/or reassembling of furniture.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our moves originate from incoming phone calls to our office. At this time we ask just a few questions in order to determine the size of the move and the most efficient way to get it accomplished. For example, a 4 bedroom, 3,000-4,000 square foot home would be best served utilizing 3 or 4 movers whereas a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in most cases would require only 2 movers.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
All of our movers have a MINIMUM of 5 years of verifiable moving experience. This is a HUGE factor to consider given the fact that there is a very large turnover of employees in the moving business. When hiring a moving company a customer never knows if he or she will be getting movers that have been doing this type of work for 5 years, 5 weeks, or 5 days. Experience is key in this business in eliminating/negating furniture damage and in getting our customers moved efficiently- that is why send only professional, EXPERIENCED movers to our customers.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started in the moving business back in 1985 working for a local Mayflower agent right here in Orlando. I have also worked for several other national and local moving companies including Bekins, North American, and Two Men and A Truck. I have utilized all of that prior moving experience in helping to build the foundation in starting American Movers Orlando.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with all types of customers including single individuals needing assistance moving their apartment, families needing help in moving their entire home, and businesses in need of getting their office moved. Whether it's a large or a small move the goal remains the same: The safe and efficient loading, transport, and unloading of our customers furniture and personal possessions.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently completed a move for a customer with a large 4,000 square foot home who wanted to be moved in stages rather than in just one day so that it wouldn't become too overwhelming for them. We were able to accommodate their request and moved them over the course of 3 separate days.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
First and foremost, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for anyone looking to hire a moving company to take the time and do research to find out if the company they are looking to hire has a moving license and insurance for their belongings. The reason for this is that there are TONS of phony "moving companies" in the central Florida area- in other words they are operating ILLEGALLY with no State of Florida moving license and NO INSURANCE for their customers possessions. Remember: As a customer requesting ANY service to be performed, movers included, it is the consumer's responsibility to request proper licensing and insurance documentation from that company PRIOR to hiring them in order to protect both yourself and your possessions. Information on moving companies may also be found on Google by searching "Department of Agriculture Business Lookup" then click on Business Search. From here, simply type the name of the moving company into the State of Florida Consumer Protection website "Name" field then click on "Search". If no licensing information comes up for ANY company once these steps are followed then you can be assured that they are an ILLEGAL company (Not registered with the State of Florida and therefore NO moving license and NO INSURANCE FOR YOUR POSSESSIONS!!!). We are registered with the State of Florida under our legal business name, American Movers Orlando. Our moving license number is im2554.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should ask several relevant questions to any potential moving company that they are considering hiring. As mentioned, they should first ask if the company has a moving license and insurance and MAKE THAT COMPANY PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION to protect themselves and their possessions. Another relevant question is to ask how long the company has been in business and how long have their movers worked there. A moving company is only as good as the movers who are doing the actual work- a customer is best served by EXPERIENCED movers who work in both a safe and efficient manner in order to get the move accomplished,
