Introduction

I'm very honest and come from a family who have all worked in the music business for years. My father was in charge of many music departments. He actually set up and sent out tuning technicians for the Chicagoland area. I've apprenticed under two knowledgeable people my father knew. I have had a world of knowledge at my disposal. And I'm very honest. I like working by myself. It's just yourself and the piano. The pianos are different. The clients are different. The repairs are also. So it stays fresh.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I taught lessons at a music academy. The owner was a piano technician and so was another guitar teacher.

What types of customers have you worked with?

A standard piano tuning.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I had a family that had a piano from their great grandmother. They were debating on keeping it, but they wanted to. The Ivory key tops were cracked and some were missing. Besides that, the piano was in great shape. I replaced every key top, filed them down, and polished them. Then I went and pitch raised it. It looks great and play great. They were so happy they kept it.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I'd say just make sure they're honest. I'm very professional. I'm into art and I have some tattoos. But I show up well dressed and you know I'm professional and determined to leave you with a luxurious experience. When you talk to me you know I'm honest.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It takes a ton of hours to train your ear. Tuning is an art. In the beginning it is very frustrating and difficult.
