Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
While we are able to price some things up front, for most jobs, we need a chance to see what we're up against. Sometimes just seeing the pictures you send is good enough, but there's no substitute for an on-site estimate for a bigger job. Don't worry. We don't charge for estimates!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We are very willing to text back and forth if you're comfortable with that. After getting some initial details, we generally schedule the onsite estimate and then get back to you with hard numbers within a few days. For most jobs, we can have you scheduled pretty soon after you accept our estimate.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've been "handy" most of my life, but I think the thing that sets us apart is my ability to find men who are much better than I am at these tasks. That's the kind of guy I like to hire, and that's the reason you're going to be happy with our work. I've got fantastic techs!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started as a real estate investor, but quickly realized I had a hard time finding trustworthy guys to do the improvements I needed on my homes. Now that I've found guys I can trust to do a great job and give their best, I decided I could help others that were in the same position as me.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with home-owners, renters, property managers, and real estate investors.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We are very happy with a bathroom remodel we did just off of Vaughn Rd. in Montgomery. We were in and out in just a few days and the end product was a cut above! The customers were easy to work with and were also very pleased with the results.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don't be afraid to hire someone for a small job before hiring them for the entire home remodel. You will have much more confidence in them and patience for their process when you've already seen them come through in the smaller situation. If you hire the big job all at once from someone you've never worked with before... then you'll be nervous and worried the whole time, even if they are great at what they do.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It can be tough to have decisions made ahead of time, but as much as possible, try not to make changes in the middle of a project. Most cost overruns come directly from those changes. Here at Buffalo Duck, we are almost always able to stay within the estimate we give at the beginning if there aren't requested changes. The exceptions come when the demolition phase uncovers previously unseen issues. Try to have a good handle on what you want the end product to look and feel like. Do some shopping for materials. Your most expensive portion of a job will almost always be the labor because you are going to hire professionals. That said, knowing prices for the materials you want can help keep you from excessive sticker shock.
