Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We price out the coatings based upon square footage of the floors, stairs and side walls. In addition, the amount of repairs needed and type of flooring will add to the cost. We often will run Home Show and Car Show discounts when customers visit our booth. We proudly offer Military and Senior Citizen discounts.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We prefer to have our Lead Installer come on-site to give you a quote so the we can physically verify the condition of the concrete, evaluate any cracking or pitting, measure area for coating, perform moisture test and check the hardness of the concrete. Next, we will take back the measurement information and email a quote withing a couple of hours. This will include your choice of coating with a breakdown of all costs minus any applied discounts. Our team will follow up within a day or so to ensure you received the quote and answer any questions you may have. They will be ready to schedule the installation date at your convenience. Finally is the day of transformation. Our team will show up in the morning to begin preparing the ground for coating. Installation usually takes one day depending on external factors such as weather, product choices and location.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Our team has several years of experience in the coatings industry prior to joining the Garage Kings family. Each installer gets formal training from the Master Trainers from the GK Headquarters. These trainers will also shadow new installers on there first three jobs to ensure their competency on the finished product. Each year, installers also attend GKU which is a training conference where we hone our technique and learn how to improve customer satisfaction.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

We spent over 20 years in the coatings industry working for other companies when we decided that we needed something for ourselves. We had worked with epoxy products before and found that the floor coating industry had a lot to offer.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Typically we work in the residential space with homeowners who are looking to improve the look and functionality of their interior or exterior space. We have also worked with realtors and home builders who want to offer something extra to their home sales. Commercial customers also contact us for warehouses, workshops and retail space.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A recent job we performed in the area was challenging because they wanted a garage and laundry room. The flooring was in poor condition and the garage was used heavily. We were able to fix the cracks, smooth out the surface and layout the epoxy. The end result was a consistent look from room to room while providing sealed surface against water damage. The client commented afterwards that they needed to remodel the rest of the garage because how great the floor looked now.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Preparation is the key to a long lasting surface. Understand if they are cleaning or grinding the cement before applying the product. Evaluate what type of warranty is offered as well as exactly what is covered.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

How much are they willing to spend? Do I have the time, skill set and tools for a DIY? How long do I expect the coating to last?
