What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

(PLEASE do not contact me for Graffiti or holiday window painting work..thank you!!!!) pricing is mostly based on size and difficulty..for example a lot of ladder or scaffold climbing can raise the rate a bit, or heavy detail or portraits..

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once we establish art direction and scope, mock ups and sketches are done to create design and estimate. If we continue, we can fine tune details, set up the calendar and proceed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied at CSULB as well as Otis Parsons school of design. I had a mentor for 7 years, as well as was an apprentice at College of The Desert Art department. I co-owned and operated TessWorks pottery studio at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. from there owned and operated Von Flue Studio speciallizing in murals, fine art, pottery, illustrations until the name changed to Whitney-Hall Studio in 2014

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I always liked to paint big, especially in school..it was a natural that I began being asked to do so on walls. one thing led to another and my studio provides a wide variety of painting services from murals, commission pieces and illustration.

What types of customers have you worked with?

There is such a wide scope and variety of what people want. that is what is interesting to me..to be given a challenge with certain perimeters to fill, and helping my clients achieve their artistic visions for their homes and businesses (and schools!!)

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I have many projects that I am completely proud of. I suppose the very large and public ones come to mind first. the 1400 sq foot Milt and Edies Dry Cleaning plant comes to mind. it was a logistical challenge, but the artwork is compelling..also the Hermosa Beach Centennial mural at Hermosa Beach pier.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The profiles here on thumbtack are quite helpful with the rate, review and photo galleries. if you resonate with past artwork the artist has done, that is the place to start. Understand that even if you dont see what you are looking for, most artist can work on your specific vision, so their style can be an important factor (example, if you are looking for realistic, an artist who's profile is mainly an animated style, you may run into issues with the final product. )

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

that not all artists work alike. Personally, I am reliable, flexible and affordable.. this can be reflected in the rating and review area. also, not all artists will be available right away. many, myself included are usually booked a month to two months in advance. that said, there are always cancellation and holes in schedules, but be patient with lead time!
