Introduction

Hello! My name is Lauren DeWitt, a visual artist in the greater Boston area. I specialize in hand drawn and painted portraits, landscapes, murals, and designs. My focus is quality, and I always strive to achieve realism with an emphasis on creativity. I have been a working artist for almost ten years and have designed murals, drawn portraits of people and pets, painted skateboards, and captured wildlife in colored pencil. I will take time to ensure my drawings and paintings are of your exact specifications and make sure you are 100% happy with your original artworks. Thank you for supporting me as a visual artist!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
My typical process of working with a new client is talking in depth about their vision, sharing reference photos, and discussing size and material they would like. I also discuss my process, how long the project would take, and any other details. I also like to send a sketch of the work within a few days before starting the actual art making with other materials.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a bachelors in Studio Art and Secondary Education from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA. I also have a Masters degree in Art Education, and am currently a visual arts teacher full time. I have been a working artist for almost ten years, and have self taught training and college level education in this field.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always been passionate about making art. I began drawing when I was in elementary school, and continued taking classes throughout middle and high school. I worked on commissions starting when I was 18, and held my first professional exhibition in 2020, featured 15 uniquely painted skateboards, called "Skate to the Ocean" at the Kings Lens and Friends Gallery in Newport, RI. Since my first exhibition, I have had three more, and continue to make both personal and commission work today.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with families, schools, companies, and individuals. I have created murals for the Cambridge Matignon School in 2023, Newport Luxury Home Rentals in 2021, and work with individual clients who want a personal commission of their friend, family member, pet, etc. I am open to working with larger companies, or individuals seeking to find new art for their wall.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently created a portrait for a client that was of their grandfather and late grandmother. This portrait was a gift for their grandfather, and wanted to create something special to remember their grandmother. This piece was 11x14 inches, and drawn in graphite pencil. This piece took about 2-3 weeks to draw, and I focused on capturing the smile and kind eyes of both people in the portrait. When the client received their work, they were so happy to see their family members drawn, and really felt like I captured the essence of who they are. It was so great to see their reaction and make such a special piece of work for their family.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When looking to hire, being as specific as you can be in describing what piece of work you are looking for best ensures my understanding and vision for your commissioned piece. Being specific with sizing, material, your timeframe and your budget is the best way I can create exactly what you are looking for!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What size do I want my piece to be? What material do I want my piece to be? What reference photo do I want to use? What is my timeframe for receiving completed work? What is my budget? How much creative freedom do I want to give the artist?
