Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I am consistently praised for my fair pricing. I can also get discounts on all paint at Home Depot and Sherwin Williams.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I usually have a conversation via messaging or a phone call which typically leads to scheduling a walkthrough of the work needing to be done. During the walkthrough, I’m taking pictures of all the space the customer is looking to have done while talking with them. I’m looking at the condition of the walls, whether or not the house is lived in, size of area, etc. I discuss specifics with the customers to find out the detail work they are looking for. After the walkthrough, I sit down and refer to my pictures and notes about the space being painted. I factor in the cost of labor and supplies and will almost always get back to the customer that same day. I usually try to find out early on what the desired time frame for the customer is and I’m always very flexible about making the job happen for the customer within reason of my schedule and their desired time frame. If hired, I draft up a contract, we figure out a date/dates and I come in and do the agreed upon work!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have 8 years of applicable experience related to painting. In that time I’ve done all sorts of paint projects which include but not limited to: Walls, Ceilings, Trim, Doors/Windows, Cabinet Painting, Deck Staining, Fence Painting, Exterior House Painting, Wallpaper Removal, Drywall Repair, etc.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I had done painting in the past as a summer job during college. I realized I enjoyed it and decided to make it a more full time job.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All kinds! Much of my work has come on painting residential homes. I’ve painted for business owners looking to have offices painted. I’ve painted a hair salon, massage studio and therapy offices all for different owners just starting up their businesses. Also, I’m not limited to the job type or location. I’ve traveled all over NH & MA for work. I’ve even gone to Maine and Vermont! I do interior & exterior work.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently painted all of the trim/doors/windows for a family buying their first home. They wanted a more modern look from the unpainted wood varnish they had so I converted all of it to white. In addition to that, I also did all the walls. Took about 4 days.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would advise them to do a little research on who they hire beforehand. Ask for pictures if you want to see previous work. Have a phone call with or schedule a walkthrough of your job—you’ll be able to tell a lot about a person and whether or not this is someone you want to work with based on their personality/attitude. Most importantly, quality over price. Don’t just hire someone because they bid the lowest. Hire someone who has a good track record and expertise in the field and isn’t just looking to make a quick buck and leave with shoddy work. But also beware of over chargers—compare prices while factoring in all elements of your job. Factor in the quality of painter you’re hiring and find a nice balance between price and quality to ensure you are getting the results you desire. A good paint job will take a little more time.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should consider a few things before talking to a professional about a project. A few would be: -When would I like the work done -What color(s) do I want to have painted -What are the conditions of my walls (if there is serious wall damage, a paint job can’t be done until that issue is fixed...in many cases a painter can be hired to fix wall damage/patch holes and dents). -Also consider the work environment for painter. Will your room be loaded with furniture and wall hangings? Will I be taking care of preparing the room for the painter or do I want them to take care of that?
