What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I start with an agreed upon fixed fee and any added work is billed at a rate of $60/hr or a new estimate is provided at the owners request. I receive a contractor discount on Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint which I pass on to the customer. Once colors have been chosen, I am happy to pick up the paint and bill at cost, receipts provided.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

It is preferable to visit the space that will be painted first to view the project and meet the customer. I take a few pictures, go back to the office, compile an estimate and email to customer for review. A schedule is then determined.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have an Associates degree from Harrington College of Design in Chicago (Interior Design). I apprenticed in interior painting with a master painter with 40 years of experience working mainly in the North Shore area of Chicago.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I first took on training via summer jobs from school/university. After the recession of 2008, I started my own company.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Mostly residential, some commercial.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

The last full size kitchen with high end cabinetry was very satisfying and the customer was thrilled. It took 4-5 days on site. And 4-5 days off site (doors and drawers)

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

See samples of past/recent work if possible.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The scope of the project. What is it exactly that is needed for the project? Doors? Both sides? Trim? Ceiling? Are there repairs needed? And also choosing colors. FYI, if it's easier to go to the nearest Home Depot or Lowes and select a paint color chip from there, it can be easily matched at BM or SW paint stores.
