Introduction

Please look at my profile and website before clicking contact, as we are charged significantly for each lead. I offer 14 years of experience as a professional muralist, signpainter, decorative painter, calligrapher, and designer. I have created for some great clients nationally and internationally including Jimmy Kimmel, Rachael Ray, The Chelsea Hotel, The Plaza Hotel and Pastificio di Martino at Chelsea Market. I offer a very competitive rate for my level of service, often not much more than those just starting out and can often do it less time. I'm a toolbox of resources! I can offer a WIDE range of styles, and am an accomplished illustrator and lettering designer as well (two books I illustrated are published and my lettering work has appeared in top magazines). I work with you to find the most economical solution and will never 'rip you off'. I treat every project as if it were my own, and give it 110%. I've developed a reputation as providing the best quality work, however, if budget is a concern, please discuss with me as there are different ways to approach a project while still providing high quality work. Please ask me about discounts for projects above $5K.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I work by project budget, estimating the number of hours and setting the price. Hourly rate ranges between $60 and $150/hour for gold gilding. I support independent businesses and am happy to consider discounts for independent business owners and entrepreneurs.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
After the initial emailing/messaging, I like to discuss the project in person or on the phone/video, as this helps immeasurably in understanding the tone and vision of the project. I then present you with a few different pricing options, and once approach is determined, I would present you with an agreement that outlines the project expectations.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have formal (Bachelor of Fine Arts) training in painting, drawing, and sculpture. I am also a published writer/illustrator, along with 14 years of experience freelancing as a sign painter, muralist, decorative painter and calligrapher.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My previous focus was on illustration (I have had two illustrated books published), and 13 years ago I moved into hand-lettering. My lettering work gained some attention and soon people were asking me to make signs for them. I fell in love with the artisanal processes involved, and have developed the full range of sign-making skills that have allowed me to make this my full-time profession.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have created for The Chelsea Hotel, Jimmy Kimmel, Rachael Ray, The Plaza Hotel, Major Food Group, Cole Haan, and many top and independent businesses in NYC and beyond .

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
The highlight of my sign writing career was working closely with the famous Chelsea Hotel in creating all of their gold gilded signage. I've worked so many hours, I'm sure my ghost will one day be haunting the halls there. It has been a joy and an honor to be able to contribute to such an iconic establishment.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
There are many factors to consider, like experience, communication, but most importantly, will they deliver your vision? I've encountered many potential clients who look to save a bit by hiring an inexperienced sign maker, illustrator, or hand-letterer. When considering that you will be using this to promote or represent the business that you have grown and loved, I believe it is worthwhile to pay for what you think will be the best quality for you.
