Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Each project is unique, so there is no "one size fits all" pricing when it comes to murals. Some things that I take into consideration when pricing a project include the following: Is it interior or exterior? What is the surface material that I will be painting on? Is it smooth and well primed, or is it textured and porous? Is the area to be painted easily accessible or will there be obstacles to work around? What is the height of the mural? Will a lift be required? What is the complexity of the desired design? How much detail is involved? What is the size of the desired mural? Custom mural prices typically start in the $1,600 range A pre-designed logo painted on your wall will start at $900. Price is determined by the complexity of the design of the logo, how many colors, how much lettering is involved, the size and surface I am painting on, etc.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
You reach out to me with your ideas, and information about the surface and area I will be painting. I will ask you for photos of the area where I will be painting, as well as a close up of the wall so I can see the texture of the surface. Most consultations can be done over the phone or via FaceTime or Zoom. I will also ask you for inspiration photos that will give me a sense of the style you are looking to achieve. I will never copy someone else's artwork, but seeing examples of work that is appealing to you will help me to understand your vision. I will also ask you about your budget. This is an important consideration because it will allow me to determine the amount of detail that can be put into your design. You may have a vision for your design that doesn't quite fit your budget. That's ok! I can typically work with my clients to create a design that not only brings their vision to life, but also fits their bottom line. I do require a design fee paid upfront prior to the start of any design work. Once we have an agreed upon design, a signed commission agreement and 50% installment is due at least 2 weeks prior to the start of on-site work. Final payment is due immediately upon completion of the work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I come from a long line of artists in my family and I was gifted with artistic talent from a very young age. I have been drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil. Although I do not have any formal technical training, a lifetime of experience and practice has allowed me to develop into the successful artist that I am today.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I was in High School I started doing projects for small businesses around the community. This launched my interest in pursuing a career in the arts. For much of my adult life, I worked creating captivating window displays for luxury department stores. I have a thorough understanding of the impact art has on the consumer market, and in recent years, I decided to combine that knowledge with my passion for painting murals. A well executed mural will stop people in their tracks and force them to take notice of not only the mural, but also of your business.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with businesses large and small ranging from places like the local Ice Cream Shop to large corporations such as PepsiCo and Simon Properties. I also work with homeowners who are looking to add some flair to their living space, as well as short term rental property owners who want to set their vacation rental apart with custom artwork and "Instagrammable moments" for their guests to enjoy.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently completed a project for Frito Lay at their warehouse that supplies the snacks to all of our nations military around the world. They wanted a mural that paid homage to the veterans that work for the company and well as honoring their commitment to our nations military. The project was approximately 34'x17' on a 45' high wall. The onsite work took approximately 14 days to complete

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be prepared with ideas when reaching out to an artist. Please allow ample time for the artist to prepare for your project. The design process takes time, and often times, an artist will be booked out for weeks or months in advance.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the vibe I want to portray with my mural? What is my timeline for completion of this project? I don't own my building. Will my landlord allow a mural to be painted on the property? Will a permit be required? Every town is different. Lastly, how much are you prepared to invest in your project? Keep in mind, you are looking for an artist to create a custom work of art, unique to you. Hiring an artist to design and paint a mural is an investment in your home or business.
