What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My prices vary greatly on the size of the mural and whether or not I have to concept and design the mural before. A 10 ft x 10 ft for example without concepting or design for a logo or a simple image costs $500. The bigger the space, the more complicated the design, the longer it’ll take and more expensive it’ll be. Concepting adds $100, and rush fees are $50 for every day less than a week out. The client can buy the paint or I can get it myself, but that is covered by the client.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I usually have a meeting with the client online where they describe their needs and then I submit a proposal and if they agree to the terms I send them a signed contract, once they sign it and I get paid the agreed upon down payment I get to work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BFA in Advertising and Graphic Design from the Columbus College of Art and Design. After learning the foundations in college, I started obsessively learning from various lettering artists online, then I specialized in doing only mostly hand lettering and have been a hand lettering artist since 2015.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I had a hand lettering business for years and saw my letterer friends doing murals and tried it out and fell in love with it.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I’ve worked mostly with restaurants so far but I’m open to most businesses.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Kafi BBQ murals was my favorite project. It took around 60 hours over a week.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check for precision, check for their lettering and typography skills. 99% of effective design is use of type and letterforms.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I ask the clients a lot of questions, but first thing I ask is how big is the space, then I ask what emotions they want to evoke, and what is their unique selling proposition for their business, and I walk the customer through a rough idea of what I can do for them, then I send them a proposal of work and cost.
