Introduction

Through my murals and paintings, I hope to convey a deep sense of cultural and environmental empathy, which is as aesthetic as it is thought provoking. I am passionate about raising awareness in my art to show how closely tied we are to our environment and the animals we share this planet with. With my large and small-scale paintings I hope to inspire a universal sense of stewardship to help the people of this world move towards a more symbiotic relationship with nature. Like any artist I was a product of my surroundings. From teaching me my first lesson of drawing the human form to providing me with creative solutions to art projects for school, my mother and father directed me towards my life today as an artist. My parents sent me to the Marin Waldorf School, a highly regarded school centered on the arts, where I developed the techniques and skills that would later propel me in my college years. Prior to graduating high school, I endured the loss of my father at the age of 17. Through this personal tragedy understood becoming a working artist was who I wanted to be, while honoring my father’s legacy. As of today, I have been professionally painting murals for 15 years. Most of my murals are in San Francisco but my first mural was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. My clients include: Safeway, Green Apple Books, Google, San Francisco Arts Commission, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe’s, The Mural Music and Arts Project, UC Davis Calfresh as well as several private clients in the Bay Area.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First we connect on the phone or through email and they share their vision or ideas. Once I know the size of the space where they would like their mural, I can give them a price. If approved, we proceed with a color sketch. Once a color sketch is approved, I ask for a 10-20% deposit for the entire job as well as a payment for materials. When the project is finished (and the client is happy 🥳) the final payment is due.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I received a BFA in Illustration from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 2004. I have done murals as small as 5’ and as large as 120’.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was a sign artist at Trader Joe’s and was discovered by a gentleman who needed a mural for his hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. That was in 2005.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All types! I’ve worked with Grocery Outlet, Google, Green Apple Books, Safeway, Trader Joe’s, the Oakland and Hayward school system, private clients and even a non-profit mural company!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently I painted an underwater mural inside of a lovely historical Victorian in San Francisco. It involved all of my favorite ocean dwellers as well as a huge kelp Forest. It took just shy of 95 hours.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Please approach muralists with serious inquiries only. Also, please know that you are paying for a quality work of art that is a very specific trade and it can be costly.
