Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We offer a large range of products and services - so, the price is completely dependent on what the project is. We provide free estimates, but it would be helpful to have your budget in mind during initial contact. We will try to give you rough estimates over the phone based on your best description of what you are looking for.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We provide free estimates. Typically someone from Inside or Outside Sales will discuss the project on the phone first and based on the description try to provide a rough idea of price. Then if it makes sense an appointment is set up for a Sales Person to come out and review the project - bringing fabric books, brochures, etc. The sales person will develop a detailed Quote. Sometimes the Quote can be provided on-site and sometimes it is developed and sent to the customer for review. If the customer wants to proceed, they would provide a 50% deposit and we create a Work Order for the project. Once it is installed, and the customer is happy, we would send an Invoice for the balance owed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We have a staff of 20+ individuals that have been doing awning and canopy work for many years (in some cases decades). We have knowledgeable Sales Staff as well as internal fabricators and installation teams. We have a full Stitching Department, Metal Fabrication Department and Multiple Installation Teams. For Commercial projects we also have two Construction Supervisors on staff.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Dorchester Awning started business in 1901 and originally built Surrey Tops for horse drawn carriages. The company branched into various awnings and canopies and has continued over the years under a series of Family Owners.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with both Residential and Commercial customers. For Residential customers the products are largely Retractable awnings as well as Traditional Window Awnings. For Commercial customers - the range is very large, from Store Front awnings, to large Canopies at Restaurants/Resorts to Entrance Canopies to awnings for Industrial buildings, as well as a variety of other styles.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
It is hard to pick one project that we are fond of. The retractable awnings come to mind because so many people tell us that they love them and wish they had done it years before. For Commercial customers - the restaurants and resorts seem most enthused because they get a completely new area for guests to be able to relax, even if the weather is bad.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for a company with the best Quality and also known for their Support and Service. No one wants to spend a lot of money and then if something needs repair - not get a return call. You may have to pay more for Good Quality and Service - but it will be worth it in the long run.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Try to consider (as much as possible) what you want to accomplish - whether it is a Retractable Awning for a deck; or an Entrance Awning; or Commercial application. Figure out your budget
