Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The more complex the project the better ability I have to offer a discount on some of the pricing due to the cost. After our meeting I will put together an estimate for your property that you will be emailed and again, we are able to make adjustments and have discussions regarding that. Once we have a set agreement I present a contract to my customer that will break down what the scope of work is, this also includes phones with description of work for that area.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I love to meet face to face at the property. This gives me the chance to see the size and scope of work that needs to be done which gives me the ability to give you a best dollar quote rather then shooting in the dark from google earth or something else. I like to understand their wishes and visions and then combine them all together into a finished plan. I also like to have a understanding of what your budget for the project is, I don't do this to blow you away with a price. With that in mind depending on the size I also offer to do the work in waves so that you have everything completed that you visioned.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
No "landscaping" education at this point. I bring real world jobs and experience that I grew up doing from the time I was a boy.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up in a very small town in Carroll County, Maryland. From a young age working outside whether it was mowing and weed-eating, in the garden or just playing in the dirt, its something that I have always done. When I was 16 I worked for a small landscaping company in my town. After 8 years in the Army and a few years in corporate America I finally decided it was time to return to the things I love and carry the tradition of hard work to my kids.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Since opening my business last year I have worked for customers that range from residential homeowners to government work.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Operation Re-Vamp (in the projects on my profile page) has been my favorite thus far. It wasn't the typical spring/fall clean-up or mowing. I was able to really put my vision for their home in work. The project took 10 hours with 2 people. We did everything from tilling their grass up, leveling the top of their yard to take the slop out that went towards the steps, putting a barrier between the mulch and the stone and finished it up with pavers to divide their property from the neighbors and also yard from sidewalk.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I always say look for the smaller business. Look for someone who is energetic about their work and looks to exceed your expectations. Whether this type of work isn't a interest to you or you just don't have the time, you still have a vision. Smaller companies are less busy and able to give your home the attention both it and you deserve from them.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the budget? When do you want this project complete? Do I want quality work for a certain price or do I just want lowest price?
