Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing is extremely reasonable for the food and service Fruitcakes provides. Consider what some menu items are priced at restaurants, and meals are served in your own home or vacation rental.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I am contacted by a prospective client, I want to know what their perfect idea of a meal or celebration is. The goal is to create a memorable fabulous experience. Dietary needs and favorite dishes are always a number one priority! We design a menu together, discuss budget and move forward.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
A lifetime of cooking for friends and family. My parents were gourmet cooks so I have been learning through osmosis since the 60's. Honestly and most Humbly, I have been blessed with a God Given talent and want to share this with you.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
While living on Kauai and working as a concierge for Aloha Beach Vacations, I had requests for a Personal Chef occasionally. I finally chose to send some of my menu choices to a family visiting in May 2012. I prepared and served dinner for a lovely couple and their two children in a beach house in Anahola for a week. It was a great success! My friends at Aloha Beach Vacations along with my family and friends on Kauai insisted this was my calling and I completely agree. I have started the Career of my life at 50 years old. It's never too late to do what you love and were meant to do.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Clients have ranged from two best friends visiting for a week and Fruitcakes providing Breakfast, Pupus (appetizers) and 4 course Dinners for their 8 day stay. Another client escaped from busy career for a week stay to meditate. I came to the home, prepared Breakfast, Snacks and Dinners for 4 days. This was packaged and labeled with heating instructions. There were dietary needs met such as Dairy and Gluten Free. I have worked for families for Celebrating Weddings and Celebrations of Life, Thanksgiving dinners and Cooking lessons for the girls night out... I also cook on Charter Fishing boats and Yachts!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you like your new chef! He/She is going to be in your home and involved your Event or Party.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Well Think about your favorite Dishes and your guests' tastes/diet. There can be a great mix of plates for all of you. Have a budget in place. Anticipate the fun!
