Introduction

We are trial lawyers.  We share a particular disdain for sitting in an office. We hate seeing defendants get bullied into taking unfair plea deals. We live for the opportunity to take the fight to the courtroom and argue before a jury.  Most lawyers these days work on volume -- signing up as many cases as possible and resolving them as quickly as they can in order to maximize profit. We personally abhor this business model.  We are selective with the cases we take on. We only accept a select few types of cases which align with our expertise, and we never take on more work than we can handle. This means that everything we do, we do extremely well. It also means that our clients always receive the personal and individualized attention they deserve and that their cases require. If you want someone to be YOUR lawyer, and not just A lawyer, give us a call today. We'd love to be in your corner and fight hard for you every step of the way. Our office is comprised strictly of trial lawyers. We thrive on trying cases before juries, presenting evidence, and arguing before a court. While most lawyers we know prefer the comfort of their office and try to settle cases as quickly as possible, we live for the fight. Only when we truly believe that a settlement is in our client’s best interests do we resort to plea negotiations. If you are facing criminal charges and want somebody who will actually fight for you, rather than just going through the motions and pleading you guilty, you need a trial lawyer on your side. Contact our office today to learn more about how we can fight for you.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
At the Law Offices of Sean Jones, we have a strong preference for flat rate billing as opposed to hourly fees. First, with a flat fee, the client knows exactly how much everything will cost. There's no question about how much money to set aside or how to budget for representation. Second, it means our clients don't have to worry about running up their tab if they want to call and chat about their case. When you hire us, you get us 24/7 for anything you need. We aim to be as straightforward and accessible as possible, and you can rest assured you're not being nickel-and-dimed.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Before signing anything, we like to get to know our clients. Most importantly, we want to find out what their ideal resolution is and set up a game plan for how to get there. Too often, lawyers use a one-size-fits-all approach and assume all clients want the same kind of resolution. Through extensive experience working with clients from all walks of life, we have learned that two different clients facing identical cases may want two completely different outcomes. Issues like immigration consequences, financial hardship, career implications, and family impact can all influence a client's wants and needs when dealing with legal matters. We pride ourselves in taking the time to understand the true nature of every case and custom tailoring our representation to the individual client.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
All of our lawyers have experience working for the Public Defender's office. Anyone with experience doing defense work for the government knows that it's intense, exhausting and grueling. That's where you see the most complex cases, deal with the most difficult clients, and handle the heaviest case loads. This experience also means we have had extensive interaction with every judge and prosecutor in the system, so we know how to tailor our style to achieve optimal results in a variety of settings. Additionally, each of our lawyers has been trained in the art of trial advocacy -- from selecting a jury to preparing compelling closing arguments, we pride ourselves on dominating the courtroom in trial.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
A shared trait of everyone at our office is that we are doing exactly what we want. This is our dream job. None of us ended up here because it seemed like a safe career, or because we wanted the status. We all love arguing. We love helping people. And there's no title we would rather have than "Trial Attorney."

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
At the Law Offices of Sean Jones, we only take on cases that align well with our field of expertise. We're selective about the cases we take on, and make sure we never spread ourselves too thin -- which means we can always provide our clients with individualized and personal attention. As Trial Lawyers, we only take on cases with a high likelihood of ending up in front of a jury. Those cases are almost exclusively criminal defense: DUI, drug possession and distribution, assault, battery, robbery and burglary. If you have a good case that falls outside of these areas, we'd rather send you to someone that focuses on that specific area of practice, rather than just take your money.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A recent client of ours was charged with his third DUI within 10 years. Typically, in California, a third DUI carries a mandatory jail term of 120 days. However, by presenting extensive evidence of our client's career and educational opportunities, as well as proof that he recognized his problem and was taking active steps to address it, we were able to keep him out of jail so he could keep his job and not fall behind on his college education. Compelling the court to look at things our way took a few extra appearances and some additional legwork, but it was definitely worth it to obtain an ideal outcome for our client.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Ask your lawyer WHY he or she wants to take your case. Make sure he or she WANTS to fight for you; that they will feel personally invested in the outcome and aren't just going to view you as another number in their bottom line.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Know what your ideal end result is. Are you trying to keep costs down? Are you trying to avoid jail time? Do you need to keep your job? Do you need to avoid immigration consequences? No two clients have the same needs and goals, but lawyers often aim for the same results with every client. Make sure you know what's most important to you and then make sure your lawyer knows too.
