Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
You pay nothing out-of-pocket. The attorney’s fees are contingent, meaning Shammas Law Office only collects a fee if you receive money for your injuries. The attorney's fees are a fixed percentage of the recovery.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First I will learn the details of the accident and the basic nature of the client's injuries. Next, I fully explain the process of an injury case, what to expect moving forward, and answer any questions the client might have. Then, I can help cordinate or directly set-up the follow-up medical care with the appropriate specialists. Also, it may be necessary to arrange for car repairs or replacement.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
DePaul Univerisity College of Law Illinois State Bar, member Federal Trial Bar, member Rated “Top Attorney in Illinois - Rising Star” Rated “Top 100 Attorney” by the National Trial Lawyers Association Rated as an Illinois Superlawyer - an award given to less than 2% of all Illinois attorneys Rated in the Leading Lawyers magazine as an emerging lawyer - an award given to less than 2.5% of all Illinois attorneys Avvo Client Choice Award

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began working for an injury law firm during law school. I Immediately knew that personal injury law is where I should be. It allows you to truly impact people's lives in a positive way after they have just suffered possibly the most devastating event of their lives.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All types. Unfortunately, anybody can suddenly become an injury victim, so I have worked with various types of clients from various different backgrounds.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One case that comes to mind is a woman who was referred to me after being turned down by three other attorneys. She was told that she likely didn't have a case, and if she were to get any money at all, it would be very little and not worth pursuing. Although her case was challenging, I decided to pursue it. I settled her case for a high six figure amount, which was the highest possible amount available under the insurance policy. No lawsuit needed to be filed. I like to use this case as an example of how persistence, creativity, and aggressive investigation on every detail of a case can maximize value in situations when other attorneys might see a dead end.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Read the reviews! Take advantage of knowing what you are getting by seeing what past clients have said. Ask questions! Many lawyers promise special attention to your case, but often times they simply refer the case to another law firm to handle. Make sure the attorney you hire knows how to maximize case value, and will actually be handling your case. I personally handle every single case in my law firm, and make it a point to remain involved in every detail from start to finish. For me, there is no other way to properly represent a client.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How will medical bills be paid? What if I don’t have health insurance? How do I see the proper doctors if I don’t have health insurance? Can the attorney help set up medical care with specialists? How do I get my car fixed, and what happens if my car is totaled? Should I speak with the insurance company?
