What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Every case is fact specific and dependent on many factors. Our fees are very competitive and affordable. In certain situations, payment arrangements may be made. Consultations for Personal Injury, Traffic, and Criminal Defense cases are FREE. Divorce, Child Support & Visitation, and Civil Litigation case consultations require a small fee. There are no hidden or surprising costs along the way. Again, there is no fee for Personal Injury consultations and no retainer fee required. Personal Injury cases are contingent fee based. Divorce and custody cases are generally billed at an hourly rate. In limited circumstances the rate may be flat fee depending on the factors involved. Criminal and traffic cases are flat fee and dependent upon the charge(s) and criminal or traffic history.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

My paralegal gathers as much information as possible prior to scheduling a personal consultation in the office with me. However, phone consultations are available, as well as jail visits. During the consultation, close attention is paid to the situation, your wants, needs, and desires. I offer my opinion, dedication, and advise. A competitive fee or hourly rate is quoted. Once you retain, I immediately begin representation on your case.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
At the Law Office of Michelle Mordue Helms, there isn't a project we take on that we aren't fond of. From auto accidents to felonies to contested divorces, EACH case is equally important and personal no matter how long it takes to get the best result possible. A recent Personal Injury/Slip & Fall case successfully settled against a large restaurant chain. Our client was graciously rewarded and overly excited about the settlement she received. This case was settled out of court and took less than a year. A client found guilty of DUI and Refusal in General District Court noted his appeal. Retained for the appeal In Circuit Court, I fought hard to get a dismissal on the DUI and a slap on the wrist for the Refusal. This case took several months and a lot of time reviewing the facts and doing research. Well worth all of the time and effort our firm put into.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
It is important to understand that your situation can have serious effects on you and your life moving forward. Criminal charges can effect your employment & family and result in substantial fines, license revocation & imprisonment. If you sustained an injury, are going through a divorce or custody battle, there may be serious effects on you, your family and your life moving forward. When retaining an attorney, choose one that is as passionate as you about getting the results you want. Someone that personalizes your case, that is willing to listen to you and understand the facts, circumstances and possible outcome of your case. Attorney Michelle Helms has extensive experience and a tough, tenacious approach in leveling the playing field, settling the toughest lawsuits and winning battles.
