Introduction

My name is Kenny Strickland and I own and operate my own personal training studio. I pride myself on providing a very nice, clean, comfortable facility that is well equipped with everything to help my clients reach their training goals. My training facility is 1500 square feet and is not a membership gym but offers 1 on 1 training or small group training (3 people or less) so there not all the distractions that you encounter in large gyms. My areas of specialty are weight loss-weight management training, HIIT training, Functional training, Toning and sculpting, Athletic sports specific, Strength and Endurance. My CPT certifications are NASM and NCSF. I also hold a NASM-PES AND CES. In my training I employ everything from free weights, machines, Kettlebells, Water rowers, Battle ropes, Bulgarian bags, Treadmills, elliptical machine, stationary bicycles, TRX suspension trainers, etc. I've been an athlete all my life, playing football and running track. I've been a student as well as a teacher in my field which allows me to understand my clients so much better. Listening to their goals, identifying what motivates them, their strengths and weaknesses and how to improve their performance and get better results from their training. I've been training 10 years, but I opened this gym in West Oakland in 2012 and I've truly enjoyed being here meeting and working with so many great people. I love watching my clients grow and take shape as they reach their initial goals and push way beyond what they ever thought was possible. Whether they walked in the door thinking they could only lose 10 pounds but instead lost 25 pounds, or having a goal of doing 1 pull-up unassisted now they can do 10 pull-ups unassisted. These things make me so happy because a lot of times I've encountered people that have really become discouraged and given up on their goals and I just want to be the one to uplift them and say "We can do this"

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
$65 per 1 hour Private session $50 1 hour semi-private session. Semi-private is up to 3 people training at the same time. Everyone has a different workout that is customized for YOUR goals and everyone works out in front of me. All training must be purchased in advance as a package. You only purchase the amount of training sessions that you plan to complete in 30 days. Days per week multiplied by 4 weeks.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Schedule a complimentary assessment with the customer. In the assessment we will weigh, do body fat and circumference measurements and then examine our results. We then sit down and write out goals and discuss what you would like to achieve training with me. We will come up with a training schedule and finally I will put you through a light workout gathering baseline numbers to see where we need to begin in training. The assessment is free of charge and if you decide to move forward with your training then you would purchase your training package at that time.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My CPT certifications are NASM and NCSF. I also hold a NASM-PES AND CES certificate.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been active all my life and being a former football player and sprinter I felt it difficult to sit still. After college I was in the corporate world but didn't have a passion for it but I loved being in the gym so I felt like I should go in the direction of where my passion was. I started out many years ago as a trainer for 24Hr Fitness then eventually formed my own training business and partnered with a Co-op of trainers. After a few years of training with that co-op I decided that it was time for me to open my own facility so here I am.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My clientele has varied from children as young as 13 years old, to young athletes, weekend warriors, people rehabbing injuries, people just looking to get off of the couch, housewives, elite athletes all the way to elderly retired clients.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I had a client that lost 100 pounds over the course of a year and a half.
