Designed for all ability levels, these personalized sessions help students maintain strength, flexibility and balance throughout their retirement years. Allison makes yoga accessible, challenging and rewarding. I am always eager to learn more about the body and how to make it function to the best of its ability. I have completed an Adaptive Yoga Certification to help students with a wide range of conditions including: – Osteoarthritis – Rheumatoid arthritis – Lower extremity amputations – Stroke causing hemiplegia and other deficits – Spinal cord injury resulting in paraplegia – Parkinson's disease – Multiple sclerosis – Cerebral palsy I am also offering classes via Zoom for those who prefer not to meet in-person right now. Whatever your personal preferences, I’m happy to accommodate!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $125/session for one-on-one classes but I also offer a discount for weekly corporate classes at your office space. I'm happy to discuss over the phone or via the Thumbtack app!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I typically like to chat with a potential customer on the phone first to ensure it is a good fit for all parties. I like to know if there are any specific goals the potential client is hoping to meet with our sessions and if he or she has any past injuries that we need to address. I also like my clients to know that I am a non-diet/non-weight loss trainer, which means I don't focus on the numbers on the scale. I focus on how exercise feels in the client's body, what makes them feel stronger, more balanced and more flexible.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
After many years of feeling like yoga was reserved for the flexible, I signed up for yoga teacher training with Gerhard Gessner at Prana Yoga Center in La Jolla, CA. During the training, I learned to turn my weakness into strength by creating playful sequences that go beyond stretching and tap into the true benefits of personal practice. I have focused my career on helping others become healthier. I hold a Fitness Instruction & Exercise Science Certification from UCSD extension where I expanded my knowledge of metabolic diseases, nutrition for athletes and exercise for special populations including older adults, pregnant women and youth fitness. I work with private yoga and personal training clients, ages 12 to 92, and I teach vinyasa flow classes with an emphasis on proper alignment and breath-work.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always been a fitness enthusiast and a long distance runner. I have been an ACE certified personal trainer since 2012 and I completed my Vinyasa Yoga training at Prana Yoga Center in 2015. I completed an Adaptive Yoga Training in 2021 so I can offer classes to more students with needs that fall outside of a normal group class. I'm about to embark on my Pilates Mat training and I will be offering Pilates classes by the end of the year!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a broad range of ages, abilities and sizes. From athletes in their 20s to fitness enthusiasts with knee and shoulder replacements in their 80s. My oldest student will be 93 this year! I believe everyone can find joy in moving their bodies, it's just a matter of finding what type of movement appeals to them.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I've worked with students who are just visiting and want to include a yoga class in their San Diego stay to one-on-one students every week for multiple years. Either way, we’ll work together to meet the short or long term goals you're interested in.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
For people who are just starting to explore yoga, I would recommend one-on-one sessions so we can focus on specific goals and experience with different styles of yoga until we find the perfect fit.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What their goals are for yoga classes- whether that is learning to relax or use yoga for their primary source of physical activity. How much time are they willing to commit to practicing each week? What is the most comfortable environment- at home, in a public park or at gym space?
