Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We offer private sessions for $85 and semi-private sessions (2-3 people) for $70 per person. All of my sessions are 1 hour in length.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
During the first session, I have the client fill out an information sheet. I have them answer some basic questions about their exercise history, goals and medical background (as it pertains to exercise-injuries/surgeries/medical conditions). I then put the client through a movement assessment to check for mobility issues and muscle imbalances. This gives me a great starting point to customize a safe and effective plan for the client.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am certified through the National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT). I have been certified with them since 2007.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got interested in personal training while working a part time job at a gym while still in college. I love interacting with and helping people. I have also always been an athlete and into fitness. It seemed like a natural fit! I got my first client in 2007 after getting my certification and haven't looked back.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with every corner of the General Population. Many hours of experience with both men and women. From teen athletes to clients in their 80s and everything in-between.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I am currently working with a stroke survivor who is 78 years old. We work on strength, balance, endurance and flexibility. He has a great attitude and and has shown great improvement in all areas. I like to think that through our training, we are prolonging and improving his quality of life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
1. Make sure the trainer is thorough in gathering information and assessing your specific needs during the first session. A great trainer needs to be able to meet a new client right where they are on their fitness journey. The trainer needs to know how to design a program that will challenge the client, but won’t overwork/injure them. The client shouldn’t feel like they need a wheelchair to get around after their first session with their trainer. As the client progresses in their workouts, the trainer must know how to scale up the intensity in a safe and effective manner. 2. Make sure it’s a good fit. There is definitely a relationship component to regularly working with a personal trainer. Things will go much more smoothly if your trainer’s personality and temperament mesh well with your own.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Ask about years of experience, education and what certification they hold. Ask for proof of certification.
