Introduction

Online training and nutrition coaching option! I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist, (National Academy of Sports Medicine), Precision Nutrition certified coach(PN1) that provides Online, in-home, outdoor and online personal training services and/or nutritional coaching. I have over a decade’s worth of experience working with clients on weight loss/toning, nutritional coaching, building muscle, corrective exercise/injury prevention and athletic training. One thing that stands out with my services is the flexibility and convenience I provide my clients. With my personal training clients we train online, in-home or outdoors, so I come to them or meet in a public place if that is preferable. I also offer online nutrition/wellness and accountability. I base our workout design off what works best for you or what you prefer, things you’ve done in the past or just using the equipment and space we have available, be it bodyweight exercises or using resistance bands and free weights, or for more flexibility training incorporating exercises, stretching, and self-massage. We can alter the intensity of workouts based on your preference and also make it fun, and possibly incorporate aspects into your every day life. I really enjoy helping people get back in the activities that they had done previously or help them find new ways to have a more active lifestyle! With nutritional coaching I work with clients coming up with short term goals of their choosing and that we know are attainable and work on what they can do daily to reach those goals! I also incorporate my corrective exercise training and experience that I can use to correct knee, back and neck issues that can eventually lead to a lot of pain and discomfort. I will perform a free goal and posture assessment to discover any areas that we need to focus on to help you to stay injury free during our sessions, such as past injuries/surgeries, current ankle, knee, back or neck discomfort, and then I will personalize your workouts based on the assessment and your goals.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For personal training I start with a base hourly rate, with optional discounted packages of around 12, 24 and 36 sessions. For nutrition coaching there’s just a monthly rate based on how many times we decide to meet and what method of coaching works best for you! I offer payment plans and will work with you to be as flexible as I can to help us get started!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I schedule a free 1-1/2hr session with them to go over thier goals. For personal training clients I also go over their exercise and injury history and give them a posture assessment to find out any structural needs we would need to focus on for injury prevention. Then I can design a program just for them. The first session is also a great time for them to get to know me and try out a workout.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I received invaluable hands-on training experience and instruction from the athletic club that I initially started working with as a trainer, and with their guidance, I studied and received certifications for Personal Training and Corrective Exercise from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and Nutrition Coaching from Precision Nutrition (PN). I have also completed numerous continuing education courses to learn more and maintain my certifications. I was a four-sport athlete while in school and have been running marathons and competing in trail and ultra races for the past 15 years. In the case of emergency, I am also CPR certified.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been blessed to be able to be an athlete since I ran my first 5k road race at 6 years of age and to still be a competitive athlete 31 years later, but I have also always had a heart for those who aren't able to reap the benefits of being fit at times in their lives for whatever reasons. My passion is to use the knowledge and experience I have obtained to help others.I became interested in being a marathon runner and was self-coached to train and then to get over some injuries and work on injury prevention as there weren't any coaches or trainers around my area at the time, so I also started helping friends do the same for the next 10 years. I was then given a great opportunity to get the training and certifications to be able to help a wider range of clients and work for a well respected athletic club. I have been training ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have had clients from ages 14 to 75. I have had clients recovering from a stroke and just wanting to be mobile again. I have worked with clients to strength train in a more functional way instead of just hopping from machine to machine in the gym, clients who have reached goals of losing 5lbs to 100lbs and then toning up. I have helped clients get started running that have never thought they could and help others get back into marathons or playing tennis again without knee or back pain. The average client just wants to workout enough to feel and look more fit and active and to get their eating habits towards the healthier side for most days.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I was excited to be able to make the change from working primarily at a gym, to being able to be more affordable and convenient by training clients at their homes, apartment gyms and the outdoors. I also came to realize many nutritional programs from gyms were usually focused on selling products as opposed to helping with a client’s eating habits. There are benefits to both gyms and in-home training, but I noticed a lot of potential clients I had met with working at a gym couldn’t afford the high cost to train, along with having to pay start-up fees and monthly membership dues or deal with the time & traffic to get there. The biggest challenge to leaving the gym was corrective exercise and injury prevention, due how specific the exercises need to be and what equipment would I be able to use outside of the gym. I discovered the versatility of working with functional and body weight training to help with program design. There is a lot you can do with just your own body weight and most clients really don't have a need for much that much equipment to achieve their goals. The equipment that I have gives me the opportunity to add a lot more variety to the workouts and has made them a lot more enjoyable. Now when I have asked my clients if they would like me to have a studio location, they have all responded that they preferred me coming to them!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When looking for a trainer, you should be able to try most of them out. It's pretty standard to get an initial free session to test out a trainer and gain some knowledge about what you can expect from a trainer and more info about what you may need to get to your goals and how much you can expect that to cost..There are a lot of trainers out there that can help and do a good job, so you can decide what other factors are important to you. Also, most customers may not know that they can and should validate the credentials of the trainer they are interested in which can be done on the websites of the certifier. Just obtain their certificate ID and the name of their certifier to check. It's good to make sure they are actually certified. A trainer is expected to have continuing education to maintain their status as a certified trainer after an initial couple of years.
