Introduction

First, 26+ years experience. Second, my age! I turned 56 this last March, GULP. Honestly I have never felt better. We have immense control as to how we age. Grab the bull by the horns, start living like you want to live not how this world tells you! Third, would be my approach that each person is completely unique and incredibly complex. Bio Individuality is never so evident than in Health, Fitness and especially nutrition. What works for one client will not work for another. Tailoring a program that fits seamlessly into a clients life and walking with them through the process is what sets me apart. The relationship that forms is the best part of my job. That relationship, and the trust it requires is a true gift. I am honored to be a part of a very private and personal journey that transforms the life of the client and all the people they touch. Its very powerful.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
It's not complicated. $150 for a single session. $120 per session when 10 sessions are purchased upfront and in full. Suggestion: don't let price determine your trainer. Find the Trainer that fits you and train as often as your budget allows. Even if this means one session a month. It's all about the relationship and how well you fit together.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
After meeting for a consultation and completing all the paperwork I will strongly suggest a body composition test. People can be reluctant. They don’t want to see the numbers. But I say knowledge is power and power gets results. Besides, almost without exception the client that refuses regrets the choice because they have lost the chance to see the progress on paper and they have lost their true starting point marker. Next we dive right into nutrition modifications and an exercise program that is tailor made. It’s never one size fits all. Two people can have the same goals, similar bodies, same level of fitness and have polar opposite programs. As a trainer you have to dig really deep to gather the information that creates the path of least resistance for the client. Fitness/Wellness is as mental and emotional as it is physical. Wow. I really went long on that answer. What can I say, I love my job

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Yes, I spend about 4 hours a week with continuing education publications. All good certifications require continuing education credits in order to remain certified. I also just returned from the Idea World 4 day Conference in Anaheim California. I love learning and it is an exciting time to be in this industry.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I hired a Personal Trainer and it changed my life in multiple ways. I knew I had to be part of this powerful profession. It was the perfect fit. I have never wanted to do anything else.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
In all the years I have worked both in club and in home I have trained every imaginable client. From the young to the very old. With a goal of athletic perfection to a goal of basic function. From a limitless ability to partially paralyzed. And I count it all as pure joy. This is the best job ever!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One client in particular comes to mind. After only 2 sessions she is completely all in. She has emptied out her pantry of almost all processed food. We have come up with a 10 min workout that she performs every morning. She is excited to start living life with real food and an exercise program that fits into her super busy life. She has lost 5 Lbs in 3 weeks and the best part is, they won't be coming back! She is changing her lifestyle.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Meet more than one Trainer. Every trainer should provide a complimentary one on one consultation. Have a list of questions and a list of expectations. Ask for proof of certifications, and insurance. Ask for referrals and testimonials. In this age of "certification via selfie" you must be cautious.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It is a personal relationship based on trust. You have to let go of the reins and be in the moment. If you are stressing about your results, then you are not being in the moment. As your trainer, I take over tomorrow and tomorrow’s tomorrow and you work on today. That is how you reach your goals. One day at a time, looking down at your next step with me keeping track of the "big goal" off in the horizon.
