Introduction

I have been in business for 12 years as a certified personal trainer, health coach and certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition. I am passionate about helping good people improve themselves in the areas of health, fitness , and nutrition — this in turn can lead to the wonders of self-fulfillment and a deep personal satisfaction at the completion of a job well-done! Sometimes motivation is a problem; it that describes you, then that is what I am here for. I have only one prerequisite, however, and that is that we have FUN doing it! Working out should be fun. It can be hard, and there is sweat involved, and some achy muscles, but I will tell you that in order to achieve your personal goals for the long-term, you have to enjoy this new endeavor. We talk, we plan, we set goals, we talk food. I work with every client on an individual basis - I have never set the same plan for any two people, because each of you is unique. I am a listener. You have a vision for what you want to achieve for yourself and I am listening. We WILL have fun doing it. You might not think so but I am going to pull you into a world that you may be unfamiliar with, but you will learn what a joy it is to use your body and your muscles, to test your perseverance and become strong in both body and mind. Let me guide you on this GREAT adventure! You have one body in this life and you must treat it well and make it strong for the long haul. I am currently a personal trainer at 4 Anytime Fitness locations in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities, and also an independent trainer at an Eden Prairie gym, Los Campeones. I also work with people in their homes and at apartment workout facilities.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My base rate is $45 for a half hour, $55 for 45 minutes, $68 for an hour. If I am traveling distances to a client's home my rate may be higher per travel expenses.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I offer a complimentary fitness evaluation and a 45 minute workout to check on our compatibility! I am interested in what issues potential clients may have which gives me a baseline for deciding if we are talking fat loss goals, muscle strengthening or rehabilitation - or a combination of those factors.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a Certified Personal Trainer and a certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition. I have a BS and MSJ from Northwestern University in Chicago, where I ran on the varsity women's track team. I have been an athlete for decades, starting at about age 7 in dance and gymnastics.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Participating as an athlete in Big Ten athletics gave me a perspective on strength, body awareness and a handle on mental perseverance in physical endeavors. This knowledge has translated to the layman's world where people of ALL ages and skill levels are seeking to improve their strength and overall physical well-being to achieve an improved quality of life as the years progress.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with youngsters as young as 15 to people as old as 91. My youngsters came as athletes hoping to improve their performances in their sports, to helping my older folks maintain balance and leg strength. I work with many women in their 40s and 50s hoping to keep or improve their strength and endurance for biking and running. Many of my middle-aged awesome gals are just trying to maintain muscle tone and core strength.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Kris lost more than 40 pounds on a medically supervised diet which she started less than a year ago. She came to me and could hardly lift her leg in a hip flexor exercise more than 6 times. She didn't really LIKE exercising, but now she comes on her own with her husband and gets on the treadmill for 25 minutes on her own. Then she is with me for an hour, and she SMILES while doing it! I didn't see many smiles previously! I am so proud of her!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
It's important that the provider is aware of any and all physical limitations you may have. Do you have a bad knee? You must be sure that your provider is aware of your limitations and does not make you do box hop-ups or squat leaps 25 times in a row when your knee hurts! Experience in a trainer counts! Are you trying to lose weight? What will this provider do for you to help you lose weight? Remember that if you have a lot of belly fat, just doing ab exercises will not burn off the fat. Weight loss comes by the body ALL THE WAY AROUND, so you must be engaged in some solid cardio exercises which work out your entire body. This is not to say ab exercises are not good!!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How many times a week should I be working out to achieve my goals? Can you give me homework? Can you help me with a nutrition guide? Do you have specific recipes or ideas to share? What should be my Protein/Carb/Fat percentage allowance to achieve my goasl? The goals being either weight loss, weight maintenance, weight (muscle) gain.
