How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was a high school and college athlete. I have an innate love of breath, movement and food. I organically fell into fitness; In 1989 I began personal training in NYC using Arnold's Encyclopedia of Body Building and took on my first official certification with AFAA that same year. I have since acquired 22 nationally recognized specialist certifications and I have proudly been a part of the fitness revolution, a blend of science, passion and a little sweat.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I am currently working with a young man who wanted to reduce 20% body weight and get off Metformin - 8 month time frame. He successfully reduced 37% and is now free from medication. He is a current client, with a new goal of running the NYC Marathon. I love witnessing clients reach their goals and create new goals! Fun!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Call them up and talk! Personal training/coaching is about a client discovering and reaching their goals. The coach/client relationship is founded and built upon trust, respect and rapport.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It's a great idea to chat with the pro about the goal, and ask if they have had similar clients and what was the outcome. Ask about realistic time frames and their approach to establishing SMART Goals which are Specific, Measurable, Realistic and Timely. The right answer is- It's your time frame! Remember, this is YOUR journey, you are in charge of the process.
