Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer several coaching tiers, and I can discuss individual options with clients. For 1:1 virtual sessions I charge $55. I also offer monthly online nutrition coaching for $200pm. I am also open to discussing hybrid coaching options and pricing plans.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Along with written intake forms, I always begin any new coaching relationship with an in-depth information gathering call. This is where we can get to know one another better, and identify your goals, potential barriers, and long-term plan. Following this, I will formulate a strength and conditioning program and health and fitness plan for you. I also provide nutritional education, and goal setting. These programs are not set in stone, and are intended to work for you and your current schedule and lifestyle. I will make programming adjustments based on feedback from our regular check-ins.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
In addition to being an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, I hold a Masters in Sport and Health Science through APUS. I am also an Accredited Sports Nutritionist with the Sports Nutrition Association. The SNA ensures the highest standards of nutrition coaching for non-dietetic purposes, and ensures safe practice. Prior to personal training, I worked as a Mental Health Nurse, a profession which helped me to approach training with a strong appreciation of the emotional and psychological factors affecting success.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After moving to NYC from my native Ireland in 2018, I knew I wanted a change of career. I began working with Maik Wiedenbach Personal Training, a high-end personal training gym, in June of 2018.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with clients from many walks of life, and with varying levels of ability when they started training. I have helped young, active men and women achieve a higher level of training quality and their ideal body composition. I have also worked with clients who wanted to lose very significant amounts of weight for health reasons, and helped guide them through this complex and challenging process. I have also worked with older individuals, and those with movement restrictions. Working with such a broad range of clients has been essential to informing my practice of viewing each client holistically, and creating appropriate progressions for people of different levels of ability.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently co-created an educational course with Maik Wiedenbach Personal Training to help novice and intermediate trainees coach themselves effectively. This was a significant project that took 4-5 months of dedicated work to put together.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be aware that there are many enthusiastic and well meaning trainers who may not be the best fit for you. Make sure any service provider you are considering hiring has experience working with individuals similar to yourself. Seek out trainers who are committed to continuing education and professional development.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Although short-term weight loss can be very beneficial for some individuals, establishing long-term behavior change is a challenging process and takes consistency effort. Make sure any fitness professional you are speaking with has a realistic vision for what you can achieve; if something sounds too good to be true, it more than likely is!
