Introduction

In a nutshell: I am an expression and branding coach who strives to tell YOUR story. I am an associate photographer with the Peter Hurley Headshot Crew, an elite group of headshot photographers from around the world. My photography services are not one-size-fits all. I work closely with my clients to ensure each photo session provides the photography they desire. While my rates may be higher than some other photographers, there are key reasons why: Satisfaction guaranteed. A deep knowledge of light. Expertise in ensuring you are relaxed and looking your best. With headshots, my sessions produce images that exude the powerful combination of confidence and approachability. My portrait styles range from vintage Vanity Fair style to Crossfit-style athlete portraits with lighting that makes those muscles pop. And with my wedding photography, I provide a documentary style that showcases the key moments of your day coupled with a cool and unique vibe that captures your love and who you are. I love listening to clients and finding out what special moments or places they want captured. Photography can be intimidating for some people, especially when it comes to portraits, and I like to make sure clients are comfortable. I want to assure them that I will listen to their ideas, and hopefully we'll even have some fun during photo session! I am especially fond of photographing musicians, actors and athletes. Tattoos are a plus!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing is flexible dependent on number of hours involved, the number of images and the distance to travel. Feel free to check out my website for more details.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The first step is a conversation via email or phone to best determine the type of images being sought--from location to the mood or vibe. What would they consider a successful photo shoot? From there, we can discuss best options for making it happen!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a career journalist with experience in a variety of formats _ from still photography to video. I first picked up a camera in elementary school and learned vicariously through my grandmother who used to develop, print and hand-tint her own photographs. I received formal training in college and my first newspaper job included work as a photographer and all the facets that entailed: shooting, developing, printing and cropping. I am a Peter Hurley-trained headshot photographer.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Photography has been a part of my life since I was a child watching my grandmother hand-tint prints and develop rolls of film. In college, I took photojournalism courses and used those skills to document news events. In the past decade, I evolved from event and sports photography to portraiture.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with Fortune 500 companies, real estate agents, couples and their families, directors of road races, triathlons and other athletic events. I am especially fond of working with musicians, actors and athletes to capture their images.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently had the opportunity to work with an executive chef in capturing some classic headshots as well as some more creative portraits that involved colorized gels, flashes and some of the tools of her trade: a meat cleaver and Japanese knives!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Go with your gut. Look at the person's work. If it calls to you, hire that person.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Does the photographer know light? Are they experts at coaching you on expression and the most flattering poses? Portrait photography demands significant knowledge, both technical and creative. Headshot photography, in particular, is 90 percent psychology and 10 percent technical.
