Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
No. You really have to understand what the client wants before exact pricing can take place. A wedding shot in a local church would be priced much differently than wedding shot at sunset in a mountain retreat that requires complex lighting and travel.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Simple, I ask questions. It is difficult to understand what the client really wants without asking questions.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I studied photography in college. I have been taking pictures for almost 40 years, and I grow as a photographer with every picture I shoot.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I enjoy working with all types of people and cultures-that's part of the fun in being a photographer!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Avoid shopping on price alone. Get an idea of how the photographer will approach the shoot. Good answers can vary however, all good answer should sound like the photographer will do some research to try to understand what you want the photos to say about your subject and how that message can be created. Most importantly listen to the photographer-he or she should be asking most of the questions. There is a lot that a photographer needs to understand about the subject in order to do a great photo shoot beside the logistics. If all of your photographer's questions are all logistical in nature be cautious.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Think though as much of the logistics as possible what, when, where, how many etc? Most importantly, give thought to the style, message, feeling that you want your photos to convey. It's Ok if you work on this with the photographer, but there should be a common understanding on this before the first photo is taken.
