Introduction

Hi, I'm John Goodman—a former award winning photojournalist turned wedding photographer. My career has taken me around the world, capturing real, unscripted stories in challenging environments. This experience taught me to find beauty in the genuine moments and remain calm under pressure. Now, I bring that same passion for authentic storytelling to your wedding day, ensuring every emotion and detail is documented in honest light. Based in Seattle, I'm here to capture your love story wherever it unfolds. What sets me apart is my background in photojournalism—years of capturing real stories in real moments. I bring that same approach to weddings: quiet observation, natural light, and a focus on genuine emotion over staged poses. I’m calm, unobtrusive, and deeply intentional with every frame. Couples often tell me I made them feel completely at ease—and that their photos feel like memories, not just images.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My pricing reflects the care, time, and professional experience that goes into every wedding I photograph. I offer clear package options with no hidden fees, and I’m always happy to create custom quotes for elopements or non-traditional events. I occasionally offer discounts for weekday or off-season weddings—just ask!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
It starts with a conversation—usually by email or a quick call—to hear about your plans and answer any questions. From there, I’ll walk you through my packages, availability, and process. Once we decide we’re a good fit, I’ll send over a contract and retainer to reserve your date. After that, I’m available to help you build timelines, prep for engagement sessions, or just talk through ideas.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My foundation is in professional photojournalism, with over a decade of experience shooting for international publications and covering real-world events. That background has given me an eye for detail, a calm presence under pressure, and a passion for capturing moments as they unfold—skills I now bring to every wedding I shoot.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After years working in conflict zones and international news, I found myself drawn to a different kind of storytelling—one rooted in joy, connection, and family. I started photographing weddings while living in the Seychelles, and quickly realized how powerful and meaningful this work is. Now based in Seattle, I continue to document weddings with the same heart and intention I brought to journalism.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I’ve worked with couples of all kinds—intimate elopements, multicultural weddings, LGBTQ+ celebrations, and destination ceremonies. Whether it's a exotic elopement or a 200-guest ballroom party, my goal is always the same: to share your story as you feel it should be told.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my favorites was a two day yacht wedding in Seattle where the couple incorporated handwritten vows, their rescue dog, and a live jazz trio. The overnight event was deeply personal and emotionally rich. I spent about 12 hours photographing them and the guests in an unobtrusive manner despite space limitations, and delivered the full gallery within 5 weeks. The couple told me the photos felt exactly like reliving the sailing journey —which is always my goal.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look beyond just the portfolio—find someone whose approach makes you feel seen and supported. Your photographer will be with you through some of your most personal moments, so you should feel comfortable around them. Ask about how they work during the day, not just what kind of gear they use.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Think about the kind of experience you want—not just the photos. Do you want lots of direction or someone who hangs back? Do you prefer posed portraits or candid moments? Also, consider your budget, your timeline, and whether you want extras like engagement sessions or albums. The more you know about your priorities, the easier it’ll be to find the right fit.
