What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

When I started this business, I made the decision to not out-price myself. I want to be affordable and dependable. I am happy to work within someone's budget if possible. I will sit down with the customer and we can negotiate if needed.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I'd like to have a conversation with the customer to make sure I have a clear understanding of their expectations. We can plan out the session as much as the customer would be comfortable. Then we can book the session. If a sit down is not required by the customer then I'm here to serve what best meets their needs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a bachelors degree in business management/leadership and a masters in education and organizational development. I spent a whole life dreaming of being a photographer, and after leaving an executive career, decided to go for it. I spent a year researching, shopping for equipment, and talking to experts. I bought the equipment and spent a lot of time learning as much as possible. I am constantly seeking classes and workshops in order to keep learning.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Its been a long time dream...with my family and friends support, I decided to go for it. I love it!

What types of customers have you worked with?

Much of my work has been with children and families, special events and smaller weddings. I especially enjoy creating memories between grandparents and children/grandchildren. I have also started a ministry where I will do free sessions for families experiencing a hospice journey with a loved one. Senior portraits, sports photography, real estate photography....I guess I love a challenge in any category.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently took a little girl to buy a new dress, then we went and did a session just for her. I allowed her to be a part of the locations and posses. She clearly had a ball. Making people happy, and helping them be the best they can be has always been my motto in leadership. It's fun doing that with photography.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Providing as much info as possible for sure. But Thumbtack helps make those opportunities available. It is very helpful to me as a service provider. I want to meet as many needs for the customer as possible.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What is their goal in hiring a photographer? What feeling do they want other people to have when they see the photos. Budget is always helpful. Then it can all come together.
