Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Some pricing is negotiable based on your project. I recommend a meeting in studio to discuss your project in detail. I'm also available to discuss your project via Zoom if you are located outside of the Twin Cities Metro area.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
For Headshot clients I like to present at least 2 pricing packages, then discuss what exactly your needs are. Each Headshot session is custom to you. This is a creative process, so we can be as creative as you like or need. For Commercial work it is recommended that we set up at least one meeting prior to scheduling your shoot date. This way we will be able to discuss your end goal needs, and specific images that will be created for your business. During your meeting a rough draft will be created for your shot list. Post meeting a detailed email will be sent to you covering the meeting, what your needs are, and what you would like to see in your final images to ensure that we have the same vision creatively. Once your post meeting notes are reviewed, the shot list for your shoot day is composed. This will be a minute by minute detail of how the work will be completed based again on your needs and delivered via email. Commercial meetings are typically 30 minutes to an hour, onsite and allow for me to review your facility for lighting. Should your project be completed in the studio a phone call to discuss your project will suffice.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I attended a progressive Art High School in St. Paul. There, I learned photorealistic oil painting and film photography. Each student that attended this school was selected based on ability. I went on to obtain my AA in Multi-Media Design and Web Development from Rasmussen College. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA and received several Honors and Deans List awards for my participation and grades. Because of my background in film and graphic design I can easily create composite images, displays, and advertising images for you and your company!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A standout project in my portfolio is the comprehensive campaign I developed for Gedney, a brand with a storied history of quality. This project was a deep dive into creative autonomy, where I embraced the roles of art director, lighting expert, food stylist, and retoucher. The objective was to craft a series of images that not only paid homage to Gedney’s rich heritage but also connected with a modern audience. My responsibility extended across all creative aspects, meticulously styling each dish and charcuterie board to capture the essence of Gedney’s products. These images were thoughtfully designed for diverse platforms, including print ads, e-commerce, and social media, ensuring the brand’s legacy was both celebrated and refreshed. The project represented a unique blend of technical skill and creative vision. Every detail, from the illumination of ingredients to the presentation of each plate, was fine-tuned to align with Gedney’s brand values and aesthetic. This endeavor was a testament to the importance of comprehensive creative control in producing work that not only meets but exceeds client expectations, setting new standards for brand representation in the industry. Reflecting on this campaign, my affection for it stems from the creative freedom it provided and the opportunity to showcase the breadth of my skills. It was a vivid reminder of the dedication and passion I bring to each project, emphasizing the value of a holistic approach to creative execution. Work projects are completed based on the job type and amount of images being presented. Each project is treated individually and completion times will vary from project to project.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Before embarking on a photographic journey, it’s crucial to reflect on what you aim to achieve with your session. Whether you’re envisioning yourself in a high-fashion model’s stance or desiring the natural allure of candid lifestyle portraits, understanding and articulating your vision is the cornerstone of a successful collaboration. Start by gathering inspiration. Dive into platforms that abound with photographic artistry, such as Instagram, Pinterest, or professional photography websites. Collect images that speak to you, those that closely mirror the essence you wish to capture in your own photos. Sharing these inspirations with your photographer is not just helpful; it’s a vital step in aligning your expectations with their creative process. Communication is key. Be open and precise about your vision, but also remain receptive to your photographer’s professional insights and suggestions. Remember, a collaborative spirit fosters creativity and innovation. Don’t shy away from asking questions. Whether it’s about the session’s flow, the choice of location, or the selection of outfits, every question you ask brings you closer to realizing your vision. Understanding the ‘why’ behind your photographer’s decisions can also enrich your appreciation of the art form and ensure that the final images reflect your true essence. In summary, clear vision, active inspiration-seeking, open communication, and curiosity are your best tools when looking to hire a photographer. By embracing these principles, you’re not just preparing for a photo session; you’re setting the stage for a masterpiece that truly represents you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
First and foremost, does this Photographer create the "look" I want? Do you know what type of "look" you want? Dig through someone's body of work and see if their visual style is the same as yours. Asking someone to do something outside of what they are currently creating may or may not work out in the end. Ask for example images, and references.
