Introduction

Welcome to M4J Photography. I'm Michael Jones, and I'm genuinely excited to share my passion for capturing life’s most honest and meaningful moments with you. My journey into photography began at 15 when I was introduced to pinhole photography. It’s a lensless, slow, and intentional process that taught me patience. It helped me understand how to work with light, appreciate timing, and stay grounded in the roots of image-making. While I now shoot digitally, I still bring that same level of care and craftsmanship to every photo I take. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of people. Couples in love. Families celebrating milestones. Dancers mid-performance. Graduates preparing for the next step. Individuals planning unforgettable proposals. Every session brings something new, and I treat each one as an opportunity to create images that feel true to who you are. I specialize in candid photography because I believe the most powerful images come from real moments. The spontaneous laugh. The pause in a conversation. The glance that says more than words ever could. I work hard to make sure my clients feel comfortable enough to be themselves, because that’s when the most meaningful photos happen. Thumbtack has been a valuable part of my journey. It has allowed me to connect with so many incredible people and has played a major role in helping me grow my business online. Through the platform, I’ve been able to build lasting client relationships and bring their stories to life through photography. M4J Photography has been trusted to cover a wide variety of events, including weddings, corporate gatherings, surprise proposals, dance performances, USPS stamp unveilings, 5K runs for heart research, and the Pittsburgh Marathon. No matter the occasion, my approach remains the same. I aim to preserve what matters most in a way that feels timeless, honest, and heartfelt. Please note, I do not offer services such as photobooths, 360 booths, videography, drone coverage, or other forms of production that do not involve handheld photography. My focus is on still imagery and capturing the heart of a moment through the lens. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and help tell your story through images you will always hold on to.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I am hired by a new customer, I typically inform them about the process in which they will receive their photos after the photo shoot or event. This will be made even more transparent once they are given a contract which thoroughly explains my services. Even still, I am always willing to walk them through the process of using my services before and after the photoshoot/event to make for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Well, when I was 15 years old I learned the very basics of photography through the pinhole camera technique and developing the photos in a dark room. That process gave me a new appreciation for photography because it shows how the evolution of capturing a photo has come a long way. My training of photography comes from going through the "evolutionary" steps of first capturing a photo from a pinhole camera (as well as developing the images in a dark room) all the way to digital photography.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've always had a love for the arts, even at a very young age. I developed a love for photography at the age of 15 after learning its history and ultimately realizing how challenging and rewarding the results of a developing a photograph could be.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a variety of customers: Young and elderly. Married. Engaged to be married. Families. Dancers. Graduates. Models. Pets. Children. They were all wonderful experiences in their own unique way.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
First, make sure the artist's work is something that is aesthetically pleasing first. Secondarily, make sure their pricing something that is reasonable or in your price range.
