Introduction

Hello there! I'm excited about the possibility of working with you. Before we get started, I'd like to share a little information about how Thumbtack works for freelancers like me: • When you reach out about a service, Thumbtack charges us freelancers a fee for the lead. • These fees can be significant, sometimes hundreds of dollars, depending on the project. • Because of this, I kindly ask that you only contact me if you're genuinely interested in working together. I'm always eager to hear about new projects and discuss how I can help. If you have any questions or aren't quite sure if your project is a good fit, feel free to ask! I'm here to help and want to ensure we're a great match before moving forward. Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to collaborating with you! WHO AM I? I'm Gavin Haag, a Seattle-based photographer passionate about capturing the perfect moment. Whether corporate headshots, portraits, real estate, architecture, or family photos, I bring a unique blend of fine art and documentary styles to every session. My background in visual storytelling and marketing helps me create stand-out images. I pride myself on making my clients feel comfortable and relaxed, delivering high-quality, natural and authentic photos under tight deadlines at competitive prices. PRICING For Real Estate, every session includes HDR, high resolution images. There are additional charges for travel, rush delivery (24-hour turnaround), and advanced editing like sky replacement, and compositing. Before every shoot, I work with a client to price out a project uniquely tailored to their specifications and needs. ABOUT ME Born in New York City, my creative journey has been shaped by my experiences in the vibrant streets of NYC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. My path led me through acting at UCLA, touring with bands, and working in film and television. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I turned to my 35mm camera to document the transformation of New York City, capturing the essence of urban life during an unprecedented time. Today, based in Seattle, I apply my unique perspective and versatility to create compelling visuals for a range of clients across the United States. Let's collaborate to create stunning imagery you'll be proud to put your stamp on!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I will work with you to suit your budget. I will get back to you promptly to discuss your specific needs, answer any questions, and schedule your session at a time that works best for you. Bulk projects get a discount.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like starting with a call to discuss your goals and ideas. If a call isn’t possible, email works just as well. I want to fully understand your vision to create something you’ll be proud of. The process is simple: we discuss your concept, schedule the shoot, and review pricing and details. Clear communication is key to a successful shoot, and I believe being on time means being a little early.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Photography began in childhood when my dad introduced me to manual shooting with a 35mm Pentax. While I never pursued formal training, my entire life has been an immersive study of art and art history. The works of Edward Hopper have been particularly influential, shaping my perspective on light, composition, and storytelling. My unconventional path through acting, music, and film has further honed my visual instincts. I’ve been fortunate to receive mentorship from working photographers, attended several workshops, taken tons of courses online, and had my portfolio reviewed by industry professionals, each experience opening new doors of inspiration and technique. However, I firmly believe that the best education comes from hands-on experience. Whether I’m capturing the gritty alleys of Los Angeles or the transformed streets of pandemic-era New York, each click of the shutter is a lesson. This blend of self-directed learning, artistic influences, and real-world practice has shaped my approach to photography. My work has been shown in galleries and used for book covers and magazines. My clients have ranged from individuals to small businesses to publicly traded companies.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I fell into photography during the pandemic while living in New York City. I had my old 35mm and decided to start documenting the changing city. Quickly, my little hobby became a passion. All of a sudden, people were asking to buy prints of my work. Supportive champions of my photography appeared, and they helped me grow the work from a hobby to starting a business.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with various clients, from individuals to families, small businesses, to publicly traded companies. I'm comfortable and flexible working in any environment.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
It depends on the session. If I feel like we're in a flow, then I'll work until we've got the shots. I am thorough and the job isn't done until we have all of the shots.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Do your research. Ask questions. Ask for referrals. Work with someone you feel comfortable with. I believe photography is collaborative, and I love working with someone to fully realize their goals or concepts.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before we get started, here are some things to think about to help make our chat as productive as possible: 1. Purpose of the Photos: - Think about what you need the photos for. Is it for business headshots, family portraits, real estate listings, social media, or maybe some fine art? Knowing this helps me tailor the session to your needs. 2. Preferred Style: - Do you like candid shots, posed pictures, or something more artistic? Check out my portfolio to see if my style matches what you have in mind. 3. Budget: - Have a budget in mind. This way, we can discuss pricing and find a package that works for you without any surprises. 4. Timeline: - When do you need the photos by? Do you have a specific deadline? This helps with scheduling and ensuring you get your photos on time. 5. Location: - Where do you want the photos taken? Think about whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor setting, your office, or another special place. The location can really influence the feel of the photos. 6. Number and Format of Photos: - How many photos do you need, and do you want them digitally, printed, or both? This will help me understand your expectations better. 7. Concept or Theme: - Do you have any specific ideas or themes in mind for the shoot? Having a clear concept helps me plan and deliver what you're envisioning. 8. Post-Production Expectations: - Think about how much editing or retouching you want. We can discuss this to make sure your photos look just the way you want them. 9. Must-Have Shots: - Are there any particular shots or compositions you absolutely need? Make a list of these must-have shots so I can ensure they’re captured. 10. Preferred Communication: - How do you prefer to communicate? Whether it’s by phone, email, or in-person meetings, let’s choose what works best for you. By thinking through these questions, we'll be able to have a great conversation and make sure your photo session goes smoothly. I’m here to make the process easy and enjoyable for you. Looking forward to working together! --- Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need further clarification.
