Introduction

I love having the opportunity to assist people with their growth and development, seeing a person realize the potential they have is truly a gift. Sometimes clients are pursuing a lifelong dream to play music and think they may be chasing a foolish dream. I can assure everyone that no dream is foolish! In fact you would not have the dreams you have if you were not fully capable of their physical manifestation. Once a client has made a decision to try, I then am privileged to introduce them to the "DOING" which completely eradicates trying. Each and every student become a functional musician primarily because I see them that way, I treat them that way, I speak to them that way with proper terminology and patiently assist them in discovering and putting to use their own personal empowerment. Selflessly serving the needs of people no matter what that may entail is an absolute privilege and assisting clients with their journey of self cultivation always leaves me speechless and in a state of humility.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The client’s development comes first! I am very flexible with my most precious asset, my time. Communication between the client and me is very important to a healthy relationship. A healthy relationship merits going above and beyond the call of duty. The money I am paid is secondary to the development of the client and when possible or necessary additional time is added on to the specified lesson time at my discretion especially when the student has shown that extra time will not be wasted! I go the extra mile for each client!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I do a personal assessment of current skills and knowledge as well as the students goals and aspirations. Because I am a Luthier, the students instrument also receives an inspection to determine if it will function properly, or be a hindrance to their studies. If needed I help the student shop for a new or used instrument volunteering my time at no additional charge. Finally I develop a plan that will meet the students needs efficiently to build their personal musical empowerment.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My best training has been 42 years of personal study. My College Degree was included in that period of time and provided very good stimulation with a pretty piece of paper. My own choices and work ethic earned me a highly advanced level of skills as well as the ability to quickly and efficiently communicate the finest of details for any study to the student. I also hold a trade school Degree and am a certified Luthier. I have in depth study in Percussion, Vocal study and Training, Piano, Electronic Music and Computer Literacy for Musicians. I also am fluent in many stringed instruments including but not limited to Lap Steel, Classical Guitar,12 String Guitar, Bass Guitar, Acoustic and Electric Guitar. I am very experienced in many musical styles also and can easily work with any style that is introduced to me by a student, although that is a rarity.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've been a student of music for 42 years. I was heavily discouraged during the first 10 years of learning. I never during my early years thought I would compose, perform or have a career in music. As I grew I naturally expressed my creativity through writing and playing music, there was always a constant natural progression in my development as if life was ceaselessly nudging me toward some purpose I was unaware of. I crushed my L5 disc on a job I had which led me to pursue an education in Luthier school. I then became an on site Luthier for Arizona Music Center until they closed their doors at which time I started a home based business "Best Guitar Repair" This progression was natural due to the fact that I was a single father with a disabled Son that relied on me for feeding, bathing, changing, as well as doctor and therapy appointments. (life did it's magic and I tagged along for the ride) Life provided me with the opportunities and I decided on the actions that would work best for my Son Johnny and myself. He can be viewed on my website on the "Chris & Johnny page" From that the natural progression into teaching unfolded as my clients would look at me with amazement after they would hand me their instruments and ask me to play something so they could auditorily evaluate my repair work on their instrument. Thus Best Guitar Lessons was born. Eventually I went to college earned a Degree with a 3.9 GPA and graduated with highest distinction. Life always knew where it was taking me and why and now I know too! Absolutely Phenomenal! Making a lasting difference in others musical development is a huge reward for all of my lifelong studies!

What types of customers have you worked with?

From 5 year old children based on interest and intellect to 80’s and older. There is always something awesome to glean from challenging and developing yourself!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A young lady called me with a request to learn a song on guitar to accompany herself singing to her boyfriend for valentines day. She had 14 days to complete this task. We managed to do six lessons in that time period and on Wednesday evening of the 13th during her last lesson she was playing and singing and sounding beautiful from beginning to end. All we had to do during that last lesson was adjust some of the vocal phrasing and to my utter amazement she not only completed her goal but she was sounding incredible. I heard her singing two days earlier, but on Wednesday night she left me in awe and amazement. Wow! Her picture playing while singing can be viewed on my website's students & guitars page (scroll down on the left next to me holding a twelve string guitar I designed and built). Of course she smiled in between verses for the photo.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
The study of music or any self development can and usually is a lifelong journey. There are many considerations, but patiently studying the materials presented consistently even if it is 15 to 30 minutes a day leads to amazing success. Ask yourself, Can I be patient with myself? Can I be consistent with myself? Can I slow down when necessary to conquer frustration and prove to myself that absorbing the understanding of each lesson and enjoying the journey become my pillars of success? You draw from these details for a lifetime and these details naturally blend into other areas of your growth!
