Introduction

Hello! My name is Johnny and I’ve been teaching music lessons since 2011. I’m a multi-instrumentalist who primarily teaches drums and guitar. I specialize in online lessons and provide a seamless lesson experience for students around the country, assisting them in achieving their musical goals. I come from a musical family and have been around music all my life. Music is truly a passion for me and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and guiding students on their own musical journey. I have 13 years of teaching experience and over 20 years of gigging experience, playing with some of Charlotte, NC's greatest legends. I’m available to teach a variety of musical styles as well as music theory and songwriting. I’m also available for freelance drumming and solo acoustic performance. Feel free to message me for information on pricing and details. I’d love to work with you!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer 45 minute lessons for ($50) and 30 minute lessons for ($40). Most of my students have 1 lesson a week and pay monthly. I also offer a 20% discount on their first month.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When working with a new student I like to start with few questions to learn a little bit about their musical history and what inspires them. I usually ask them how long have they’ve been playing, if they have had ever lessons before, and what kind of music or artists they like. I also like to have students play something for me so I can see their style and where their skill level is. These things help me provide a learning path for the student.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC for an associates degree in music. There I studied piano, music theory, and also achieved an education in Jazz performance. Around the same time I studied privately with one of Charlotte’s greatest drummers for many years. I’ve also gained a lot of experience through teaching, which I’ve been doing for 10 years now. Ultimately, all of these things contribute to my ability to teach multiple instruments and various skill levels.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After college I started gigging professionally and decided to take lessons to advance my skill set. There I began to understand that teaching is a valuable part of music and also a career. It’s great because you can make a living and stay involved in music. My father is a teacher and musician so I also inherited both.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I’ve worked with students of all ages as young as 5 and as old as 50. I’ve gained a lot of experience teaching and understand that every student is different. I specialize in catering to their learning style.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One project I’m currently working on is the piano part to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. One of my students has been interested in learning the whole piece so we’ve been learning a handful of measures each lesson. We’ve been working in it for almost 6 months now and are almost done!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would recommend that the customer take the time to explore their options and choose the instructor that best suits their needs. Every teacher brings something different to the table and it’s important to find the one that lines up with the students learning path.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I think customers should ask any questions that come to mind in relation to lessons. A few that come to mind are; how much of a commitment is this, is this an investment, and what would the learning path be.
