What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Business costs can affect my estimate as well as special needs such as gas pricing for long drives. I’ve actually only once had to raise my prices by few dollars because it was a distant location and unique circumstances.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Do a telephone assessment first. Secondly, meet with the child or adult and plan lessons and curriculum tailored specifically to their needs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Certified Educational Consultant. Continual courses or directed reading on how to best teach subjects.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I had scored in the upper 10% of the country in my SAT scores, and found academics really interesting and stimulating. I passed the CBEST and did a lot of teaching. I then earned a M.F.T. Credential. I continued to teach and do family education. I found I had natural talent for teaching. People observed I was very patient teaching. I love being a tutor and do it so well I still have clients from four years ago!

Many different nationalities and all ethnicities.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I taught a child to read. He was timid in learning English and scared. After working with him for several months, he is now reading and comprehending English beautifully! His parents are so grateful!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

See how professional they are. Do they ask you specifically about your needs? Do they assess your child’s strengths and weaknesses to better help tutor them? Finally, observe their session with the child to see how friendly and competent they are.
