For 20+ years, I have been part of Cairo’s diverse music scene, performing live with a variety of musical acts and teaching drums to students for 12+ years. I’ve had the opportunity to learn and play different genres with a particular affinity for rock, jazz/funk, electronic music and Egyptian percussion, having been the drummer for The American University in Cairo Arab music ensemble for many years. I am super passionate about drumming and it is important that lessons are fun and engaging. I like to mix up the content of the class and am flexible as to the student’s objectives and needs. I like to talk in terms of concepts and approach to drumming, both mentally and physically, in order to visualize and simplify ideas. I am quite detail oriented when it comes to foundational technique with a strong belief that understanding rhythmic relations and styles is key to significantly faster improvement. -Learn basic to advanced drumming skills: technique, independence, orchestration and understand different musical styles of drumming. -Choose to focus on drum kit, Egyptian percussion (tabla/darbuka, duf) or both. -All skill levels welcome (ages 5+) -Taught in a safe, fun environment in Upper Rockridge.

As a professional session musician I’ve made music with people from all manner of backgrounds and genre preferences. My background in classical piano and jazz has provided the chops to play the music the moment calls for; my love for the great performances from rock to soul, punk to pop, hip hop to country, makes me excited to share that love, and hone whichever tools are needed to achieve the sounds people seek. In all of these cases, different modes of communication and different backgrounds and approaches to the practice of music are at play. I bring all of these experiences into my teaching. There, my focus is bringing people into the world of music, and help give them confidence to discover and communicate their musical vision. Wherever you’re starting from in your relationship to music, We can find your voice together.

Hello! Thanks for your interest in taking drum lessons. Warren has 30+ years playing drums in and 20 years teaching experience under his proverbial belt. Although his focus has been the drum set the past 25 years, his foundation was in orchestral percussion and the rudiment heavy discipline of marching band. After moving to San Francisco in the fall of 1998, he quickly became part of a vibrant and diverse music community and honed his live chops gigging, touring and recording with artists such as Citay, Crime In Choir, Tussle, Kelley Stoltz, Daevid Allen, Carletta Sue Kay and 3 Leafs to name a few. Since 2002 he has taught drum lessons privately, and for institutions such as The Paul Green School of Rock, Vibo Music, Alma Music Academy, Live Oak elementary school, Children's Day elementary school and The San Francisco Project. As a teacher, Warren tries to cater to the individual needs of each student while focusing and good technique and the fun, expressive qualities of the drums. Sorry, but at this time I am not offering free trial lessons. That's how confident I am that you'll love working with me. :) Thanks!
