What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My prices are $70 an hour or $35 for a half hour lesson.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

At the first lesson we discuss student goals, learning approaches, agree on the lesson schedule, and begin lessons. Payment arrangements are explained and agreed on.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I performed with the Los Medanos Baroque Ensemble for 4 years playing piano and harpsichord and was accompanist for a local church. I was a student of Nancy Bachmann for 8 years at Los Medanos College studying piano and music theory. Previous to my studies with Ms. Bachmann, I studied piano and theory at San Jose State University. My early studies were with Ella Hermann in Minneapolis. I played with the Los Medanos Baroque Ensemble, local churches and for various school productions. I have studied privately and taken studio classes since I was young. I have played in a variety of venues the latest being with the Los Medanos Baroque Ensemble. I have also studied harmony, ear-training and sight reading. studio classes, fundamentals of harmony, ear training, and sight reading.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

While teaching kindergarten with AUSD in Antioch I played piano for assemblies and student performances and musicals after which students and parents asked whether or not I would teach piano to their children.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with students of all ages. I have had the pleasure of working with adults from 20-75 years of age and children from 5-19 years of age. It is my joy to work with anyone interested in learning how to play the piano.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I have two students who are sisters and I am very proud that they have continued their studies for 7 years. I have also recorded a baroque piece with a small ensemble in which I play the harpsichord. I have an annual recital and present awards for practice and achievement during which all my current students perform.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Think about what you really want to learn and do with music and then revisit these desires every six months. Then you will be able to decide on the best teacher to support you in attaining those goals.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Music can be enjoyed at any level of experience and skill. The more involved one becomes with music, the more enjoyment follows.
