Introduction

Welcome to Guitar Star Instruction! I am Conservatory trained with 20 years of performing experience and over 35 years teaching 40 to 50 students a week. I am also a highly trained specialist in study skills so lessons are easy to understand, fast and fun! I teach all ages and have a great book and system I wrote for advanced players wishing to learn how to solo, improvise and write songs! Plus we'll learn your favorite songs right off YouTube. Call or text for a Free Intro Lesson/Visit. (PLEASE NOTE: Thumbtack providers are automatically charged when a customer selects them so please note the distance to drive to me and if too far, don't select me but find someone closer.)

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
30 minute - $30 45 minute - $45 60 minute - $60

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I assess what the student may already know about the instrument, general music knowledge and if they play another instrument. Then we talk about what they want to learn - musical styles , artists, specific songs, etc. The we work our a program to best achieve those aims

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I attended Hartford Conservatory, played professionally for years, also studied several extensive courses in Study. Learning and Teaching Skills. Then there's the thousands of hours spent learning songs and teaching a few thousand students for over 37 years!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began teaching as a student teacher at the Conservatory after class hours. I continued teaching privately that Summer when the School's program took recess.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Everybody! Boys, girls, men, women from 7 years old to 83! American students, foreign students interested in any style you can imagine or find on YouTube!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Students often ask me to teach them a song and half the time I either have it written out already or I know it and quickly chart it out for them. The rest of the time I dig it up on You Tube and after a quick listen it's charted out and in their hand.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The most important things to look for in a music teacher: 1) Training and experience level. 2) The teacher should have a solid plan of instruction and use standard instruction books not just go week to week teaching "whatever comes up". 3) The teaching program should be individualized for each student especially those at intermediate and advanced levels. 4) The lessons should be fun, interesting and informative! 5) Don't shop price. You will spend more, actually waste more, with a poor instructor who makes little progress with the student.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
You should ask questions 1, 2, and 3 above. I would also ask for a free visit to meet before you select a teacher to feel comfortable and confident in your new teacher.
