Introduction

I sang and played guitar and bass for about 45 years, wrote songs, taught private guitar lessons for 4 music studios, 1 music class in a private elementary school, and adult education classes at 3 Broward County high schools. I owned and operated my music business for around 40 years, as a teacher/instructor, singer/musician, entertainer, and DJ/MC. I Performed as a solo artist and played with several bands during a 30 year period. I sing (tenor) and play acoustic and electric guitar, bass or ukulele. Most of my 500+ songs are classic hits from the sixties and seventies, including country, folk, rock, pop, and standards. I like to help others to enjoy a fun hobby and personal satisfaction to achieve success in self confidence by mastering an instrument. I have taught over a thousand students from 7 to 70 in roughly 40 years.

unfold fold
Take Private Lessons from an experienced teacher at your house costing only $35 for 30 minutes, $45 for 45 minutes, $55 for 60 minutes. including transportation. One hour lesson per week and 30 minutes practice daily is recommended for best results. There is a $10 charge if you don't notify me to cancel and/or reschedule appointments at least 12 hours in advance with a voicemail or text message to my phone. There is also a $20 charge if you don't take your lesson for any reason after I have driven to your house. No contracts, commitments, or advance payments required, tax or any other costs, except for optional equipment, accessories, books, etc. Pay each visit with cash or check, no credit or debit cards yet. I will give you handouts that I print out at my expense, so you don't have to buy a book for about $20, that most teachers require you to purchase. I have never raised the price for any of my students, even after 2 years or more!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I evaluate what they already know, then start from there. We learn fingering techniques, picking and strumming styles, notes, scales, chords, songs, and music theory. I give clear instructions and detailed explanations in an organized order, demonstrate action with visual aids, ask questions to verify communication, review and test, then put into practical application. I teach the basic fundamentals of playing the guitar, like proper fingering techniques, picking and strumming patterns, plus music theory. The student will learn the notes, scales, chords, read music and tablature, play melody, harmony, lead riffs, and background rhythm accompaniment in tunes of varied styles, as well as singing the lyrics of the songs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I go to classes for digital recording software and technique. I like to help others to enjoy a fun hobby and personal satisfaction to achieve success in self confidence by mastering an instrument. Currently, I own more than 40 stringed instruments, all with straps and gig bags, 5 keyboards, over 15 amplifiers with speakers or headphones, about 10 microphones with cords and stands, many harmonicas, tuners, guitar stands, effects, music stands, music books, and other accessories.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My father had an old acoustic guitar that I started playing on, at 15. I got a new electric guitar and small amp for Christmas. I paid for my private lessons from saving money by working, then all of my equipment, and college myself. I learned very quickly from 2 instructors in about 8 months, practiced many songs, took music classes in college, played professionally as a solo and with bands. I started teaching private lessons in a music studio at 20, and later taught group classes at Adult Education Night School.
