I'm a very patient and easygoing instructor who has experience teaching Adults and Children in both classroom and in-home settings. I have been playing guitar since 2008, both professionally and for fun, and have picked up several other instruments since.
I’ve worked in programs in several schools in DC, both public and private. I currently work as an administrator for a local music school, managing their recitals and events. My schedule is fairly flexible, and I work hard to ensure that every student gets the attention that they need to grow as a musician.
Discounts available for online lessons, and promotional rates apply for the first month of in-person lessons!
I also provide AV Equipment Rental and Karaoke Party services at competitive prices in the DC area!

Gersh Chervinsky is a professional concert violinist and violin teacher based in Rockville, Maryland. Gersh is the second-award winner of the Cremona Festival and Competition (Italy, 2012), and was a participant in the London Purcell School Music Festival (England, 2013), and the Keshet Eilon Festival (Israel, 2019). He has performed with star musicians such as Joshua Bell, Norman Kreeger, Sarah Daneshpour, Amit Peled and others.
Gersh collaborates with the Washington Bach Consort, Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, and the Apollo Orchestra as the associate concertmaster. Trained at the Moscow Conservatory, Jacobs School of Music, and Peabody Institute of Music, he exhibits the finest traditions of
modern and baroque violin playing.
Gersh is an enthusiastic educator. He has extensive teaching experience. He taught college students at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as an associate instructor of violin. He also taught exceptionally gifted pre-college students at the IU Summer String Academy. Currently, he is a string faculty member at The International School of Music and maintains his private studio in Rockville.
Gersh’s Teaching Philosophy
In Gersh’s teaching practice, he uses various approaches, depending on the student’s level and needs. With beginners, he emphasizes the physical aspect of fluid violin playing. He works extensively on body control and on the flexibility of muscles and joints. Together with his students, they explore the basics of sound production and simple scales. At this level, he also teaches music literacy so that students can effortlessly navigate a music sheet. With intermediate students, Gersh builds bow stroke “vocabulary” by going over various etudes and exercises. Concert repertoire is included according to the technical preparedness of
each student. With advanced students, Gersh works on the refinement of sound production, articulation, phrasing, vibrato, and particular features of styles. At every level, Gersh emphasizes the basics of posture and proper hand movement, as it is always beneficial to keep your “arsenal” in good shape. Gersh believes that a professional violinist, and violin teacher should love every aspect of the process, including working on the basics. This is why he is particularly invested in young and teenage students.
The students will exhibit what the teacher invests in them. Students will mirror the skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm exhibited to them by Gersh. He believes that even a basic down-bow should be played with confidence, comfort, and a sense of self-worth. His goal is that his students learn the value of musical skills and develop good taste. Gersh hopes that playing music enriches his student’s life and positively affects others around them.

ATTENTION: - I'M OFFERING A SPECIAL: IN PERSON OR ONLINE, 4 1/2 HOUR LESSONS FOR 1/2 PRICE $20 EACH. WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE $180 IS NOW $80. In person lessons must be fully vaccinated.
My regular rate is $45 1/2-hour, $80 hour.
There's never a contract.
People want to study singing for so many reasons. You've sung all your life and want to sing better. You'd like to be able to audition for a better chorus or a part. You were told you were tone-deaf when you were 5, and haven't dared make a sound since, or if you have, people have laughed at you. Those are all good reasons. My job is to take you wherever you are, whatever you hope to achieve, and help you sing better whatever that is.
The lessons themselves can be done online, or in person within New Jersey only. New Yorkers usually don't want to come to NJ, but you could take lessons online.
If you're apprehensive doing lessons online, please read my reviews. Quite a few of them are from online students. There's never a contract. You can
try one lesson and see what you think.
Your health is the most important thing to address in lessons. People come to me with chronic sore throats from strain, limited ranges, breaks. We fix these things, and you sound great and have fun. I don't let 12-year-olds sound like they're 30. I care, and I'm good.
The human voice is the most wonderful toy I can imagine. As a teacher, I get to play in everyone's toy box. It's all fun. I love helping someone who thinks they can't sing on pitch sing on pitch. I love working with people who've sung all their lives and just hope people won't laugh at them. I show members of the chorus that they're soloists, and no one's laughing. I love working with beautiful, strong, healthy voices that just need a little help to fly. I love it all.
